The census figures don't count illegal immigrants so there's no way of knowing how many non-Mexican illegals there are but I observed enough in my 25 years in San Francisco to know that there are large numbers of illegals from Russia and Ireland many of whom contrive to get city-provided welfare as well as making money "under the table" in restaurant jobs (which I know about first-hand having been in that business.)
Then there are the illegals from Asia. The immigrants from India and the Phillipines are usually skilled workers - IT specialists, nurses etc - and they come legally. But there are many illegals from China.
Fifteen years ago I bought a house in the Sunset District. At that time the population of that San Francisco neighborhood was about two-thirds white, mostly working class folk of Irish and Italian descent and it was a nice, quiet, safe neighborhood with good schools. The remaining third were Chinese and Phillipino legal skilled workers.
By the time I sold my house 12 years later (to Chinese for nearly three times what I had paid for it) most of the Irish and Italians had also sold their houses (that had once cost them $50,000 25 years ago) to Chinese for $500,000 and moved to middle-class suburbs out of the city. The Sunset District is now two-thirds Chinese and those same houses sell for $750,000.
Soon after we moved there, the house next door to us was bought by a wealthy businessman from Hongkong. We saw him and his wife a few times when they first bought it and then they disappeared and ten or more people moved into the two bedroom house, some even living in the garage. None of them spoke English. They hacked up snot and spat it on the side-walk, killed and gutted chickens on their front stoop and owned so many cars that our guests could no longer find parking on the street when they came to visit us.

What illegal immigrants are doing to San Francisco they will do to the entire nation. I see it happening in my old home town. Marion, NC is being overrun with illegals, mostly Mexican, and is becoming a sewer.
We have one more chance. The Senate is on break having failed to pass any kind of amnesty bill. We have to let them know that no legislation which allows those here illegally to remain, under any set of circumstances, is acceptable.
Thanks for the link, Lem. Now I'll sound like a snob but I disliked the Chinese more than the Mexicans because they have no ethics or morals whatsoever unless they are Christian. They have taken over the city bureaucracy and you cannot get anything done unless you bribe them. I realize we had problems with Mafia and stuff before but this is worse. When I went to take my final test to become a citizen, there was a Chinese woman ahead of me who was questioned in Chinese by another Chinese despite the fact that it says you have to answer in English.
ReplyDeleteI’m not surprised. The Chinese culture became totally bureaucratized and utterly stagnant about 2000 BC. Where bureaucracy thrives corruption thrives with it.
ReplyDeleteThey don’t assimilate very well either. They learn the language, but as far as they are concerned their culture is thousands of years old and was good enough for their sacred ancestors so it must be better than anything America has to offer.
The Mexicans at least have a morality based in the Judeo-Christian tradition.
Yes, the Chinese are very arrogant and snobbish which is funny since they like to spit in the street like baboons and many bring TB into the USA. Oops, sorry but I don't like them much having lived with them for 25 years.
