All of this has happened before. . .

People often make the mistake of thinking that history began with their own birth, or to be more accurate with their first clear memory. It is good therefore to remind ourselves that those who came before us had to suffer fools just as wretched our own Michael Moore and Cindy Sheehan. Even during WWII there were privileged persons in free societies who turned their backs on nation and culture and embraced even the most odious of liberty’s foes.

From The Scotsman:

NEWLY-RELEASED papers show the scale of suspicion and fear around the British High Command during the Second World War. It has emerged that intelligence chiefs faced a dilemma over how many aristocrats with Nazi sympathies they should arrest, amid fears that interning too many would inflate their importance.

Documents released today at the National Archives in Kew show MI5 spied on a god-daughter of the late King George V, Dowager Viscountess Dorothy Downe, noting her as a "most fanatical admirer of Hitler" and intercepting her mail.

It should be pointed out that this was going on while the bombs were falling on London and British sailors and merchant seamen were dying in the North Atlantic trying to keep a lifeline of supply open between the British Isles and North America.

The above may offer some comfort when confronted with the ravings of someone like Jackass Jack Murtha, who is rapidly replacing Dick Durban as America’s Lord Haw Haw. See here for the latest example of Murtha’s unhinged rhetoric.

Of course what does not offer any comfort is the certainty that if these morons have always been with us that they always will be with us.
