If one makes his bed. . .

From The Scotsman:

Yesterday, the row continued, as the Christian group to which Kember belongs, Christian Peacemaker Teams, insisted that other members did not wish to be rescued by soldiers if they were taken hostage in Iraq.

Most CPT activists have signed statements of commitment, making it clear they do not wish any military intervention should they be kidnapped by extremists while in the war-ravaged country.

The case has raised questions about whether the military should take action to help British citizens if they ignore safety warnings and get into trouble in Iraq.

It damn well should “raise questions” about whether the military should take action in these cases. I say that it should not. Why should a soldier risk his life to save some fool who doesn’t want to be saved in the first place?

I think the British government should round up those three ingrates and hand them back over to the terrorists in Iraq.

  1. For years I ignored safety warnings and revisited parts of the Mess in Potamia. Business was business, and one does what one is comfortable with. All life is a risk, blah blah. If a sand flea, make that a swarm of sand fleas were to have somehow taken me alive then it would have been my own damned fault for being there in the first place. Doesn't mean I would not have prayed every frickin waking moment for the cavalry to arrive, and wet sloppy kisses all around would have been the order of the day. Eventually the risk became too pronounced and I came home. Lots of guys make that decision every day because there's tons of cash to be made even sweeping the floors over there.

BUT, for these cretins to not give thanks to the men who willingly marched into harms way to save their sorry asses is mind boggling.

It's hard to be selective in who you save. Military personnel jump at the chance to rescue a countryman, and to them goes the honor regardless of what the asshats say or do.

  2. I got no problem with the military saving innocents even if they "knew the risk". After all making a buck is more American than apple pie. It is just that these alpha hotels went on record as not wanting to be rescued. So I say don't rescue them.

  3. If just one soldier had been injured (or worse) in this rescue....I better not finish what I was going to say. Grrr!

  4. If they are hypocrites they will continue to enjoy their freedom. If they are not they will go back to Iraq and turn themselves back over to the terrorists.
