Rowan Scarborough reports in the Washington Times:The top U.S. commander in Iraq yesterday declared an end to a 10-day wave of sectarian violence that killed an estimated 350 civilians, asserting that many reports of violence were "exaggerated."
"It appears that the crisis has passed," said Army Gen. George Casey, giving a detailed public report card. "But we all should be clear that Iraqis remain under threat of terrorist attacks by those who will stop at nothing to undermine the formation of this constitutionally elected government. ... They tried to have this [be] the straw that broke the camel's back, and it failed."
Once again the Left’s fondest wishes are denied to them. Their hopes for a bloody Iraqi civil war are not to be and they are left gnashing their teeth in helpless rage and frustration.
I have asked before and I will ask again, what must it be like to be these people? They have positioned themselves as a party in such a way that they must hope for the very worst news. They must pray for a massive terrorist attack on US soil or for our troops to be slaughtered in battle or our allies to descend into brutal internecine violence to have a hope of victory.
Can anyone imagine the Republican Party in 1944 hoping that the D-Day invasion would fail and that our forces would be butchered on Normandy Beach and pushed back into the Atlantic? That is the position that Democrats find themselves in today. This is why I call them the Party of Treason.
How much longer can a man of true decency and principle like Joe Lieberman remain in a political party which is rapidly transforming itself into a death cult?

A sad day for the Party of Treason
