Ann makes the point that the victims in these and a great many other tragedies could have avoided their trouble if they had avoided behavior that out society at one time condemned.

The fact is that some behavior, while legal, is very stupid. While a woman should be able to walk down the street naked except for 5 million dollars worth of diamond and gold jewelry with no fear of rape or robbery we all know that the world is not so constructed.
