The JonBenet murder solved?

Like many people I started my morning learning of a break in the 10 year old JonBenet Ramsey murder case. As I spent the day on the road listening to hourly radio news updates and hearing the case discussed on the Sean Hannity show it became apparent that there were some serious problems with John Mark Karr' confession.

Karr claims that he drugged JonBenet, yet tests of her body showed no trace of alcohol or drugs in her system. He says that he had sex with her, and the autopsy showed "vaginal abrasions" but could not conclusively conclude that she was raped. He also claims that JonBenet's death was an accident, however investigators concluded that the death must have been deliberate.

There are also apparently witnesses who can place Karr on the other side of the country on the night of the murder.

It remains possible that Karr is the killer, however unless a DNA test establishes that he was in contact with the child right before her death it seems unlikely.

The truth is that a member of the family was and probably still remains the most likely killer.

To experienced homicide investigators the fact that the father conducted his own search of the house and found the body after police had missed it is almost as good as a signed confession backed up with a DNA match.

There were a number of other factors as well. If DNA testing does prove that Karr was in the Ramsey home and in contact with JonBenet's body then police should look for a connection between him and Mr. Ramsey both before and after the crime.
