Oil is worth fighting for

I have decided to join the War for Oil Blogroll.

Oil is the single most important strategic material in the world today. Of course food, water and oxygen are of more immediate importance, but no one nation has a lock on the majority of the world's supplies of those things.

Oil is literally the fuel which powers the engine of modern technological civilization and the freedom and prosperity which it provides those sane enough to seek out its advantages.

If all the oil in the world were to disappear around 5 billion people would die within one year.

Without oil the great majority of the surviving population would live under the lash of the cruelest kind of poverty.

Without the plentiful and cheap energy oil provides the kind of society which respects individual human rights would not be possible.

Oil is of such surpassing importance to the civilized world that if the nations which have the good fortune to be sitting on top of the world's supply of it act in any way to endanger the free flow of it at market prices the rest of the world is justified in using any means necessary, including warfare, to correct that situation.
