Pictures of Asheville

This is Asheville, the Emerald of the Blue Ridge. At the left is the BB&T Building. Center is the First Baptist Church (with the dome). At the right the building with the structure on top is the National Climatic Data Center. To the right of the Climatic Center is the Battery Park Apartment Building.

Panning the camera to the left we see the Buncombe County Courthouse and the Jackson building. Over to the left of the courthouse is the city office building.

Author Thomas Wolfe's father had a shop on the site where the Jackson Building now stands. He carved tombstones.

Here is a better view of the First Baptist Church.

This is the Haunted Bridge of Beaucatcher Mountain, also known as Helen's Bridge.

The story goes that a woman lived with her only child, a daughter, in a house on Beaucatcher Mountain. One night the daughter was killed in a house fire. In her grief the woman hanged herself from the bridge.

Supposedly if you drive your car up to the bridge late at night, stop and turn off the headlights Helen will appear to you if you call her name.

The story also says that if you see her your car will refuse to start when you try to leave.

Yes, I tried it. No, nothing happened.
