The GOP wants to win after all

From MyWay:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday authorized building a fence along portions of the border with Mexico in a vote critics said had more to do with election year politics than controlling illegal immigration.

The Republican-written bill, approved on a vote of 283-138, calls for construction of about 700 miles of fence along the 2,000-mile border with Mexico. Democratic opponents said the measure was a charade designed to help Republicans ahead of the November 7 elections.

. . . House Republican leaders plan to pass a series of border security measures before lawmakers break at the end of the month to campaign for the elections. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, an Illinois Republican, said the fence and other efforts would be added to a domestic security spending bill for next year that the House and Senate are hoping to finish by the end of the month.
In any other area but politics this might be too little too late, but the fact is that the average American is only now really beginning to pay attention.

Border security and the war on terror are going to be the issues which drive this election and the Republicans have established themselves as the party to trust where they are concerned.

If the current trends continue (Bush's job approval rating is at 47% in the Rasmussen poll, up from a low of around 31%) the Democrats could be in for a very rude awakening this November. I won't go so far out on the limb, at this time, to say that the Republicans will pick up House seats, but they will certainly lose control.

The truth is that the House has been doing the right thing on immigration all along. The problem has always been in the Senate. There a handful of RINO traitors led by evil John McCain and his detestable little handpuppet Lindsey Graham have tried to ram an amnesty/open borders bill down the country's throat. The House Republican leadership stepped up and did the right thing refusing to even negotiate.

Immigration is the single most important issue facing the nation today. More important than terrorism. More important than taxation or health care or any other "kitchen table" issue. If the borders are thrown open and amnesty is granted to the illegals already here it will end the United States as a free and prosperous nation. Their votes will place Democrat left-liberals in power and this will end America's ability to defend itself.

America will become a corrupt socialist country with the same economic profile as Old Europe, permanent double digit unemployment and choking regulation which hamstrings entrepreneurship, an income tax rate in the 60% range and a socialized health care system which gives a trip to your family doctor all the charm of a trip to the infirmary at the state penitentiary.

I don't care how mad the Republicans have made you in the past two years. The Democrat Party cannot be trusted with any aspect of the governance of this nation.
