Filip van Laenen makes a good point in The Brussels Journal about the firestorm raised over the Pope's recent comments regarding Islam:The events of these last days concerning the speech Pope Benedict XVI gave at the end of his journey to Germany have resulted in what some could call a «knee fall» for Islam. I think that in reality, he is the moral victor of the conflict, but whether the Islamic religious and political leaders who have mobilized against him ever will understand (or be able to understand) that is another question.
The violence which the followers of Mohammed have committed in the past few days does more to prove thee criticism accurate than anything else possibly could. Something I commented on here.
This whole incident underscores the massive sense of entitlement which the Islamic faith engenders in its adherents. I honestly doubt that the irony in the following statement would even register on the average Muslim:
"Anyone who describes Islam as a religion as intolerant encourages violence," [Pakistani] Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said. SourceThis is because the Koran clearly teaches the victory of Islam in this world. Muslims are promised an unbroken chain of victories until the religion of Islam blankets the entire globe. All non Muslims are given three choices. Convert, accept dhimminitude and pay the jizra or die. They make whichever choice they wish without coercion (for there is no coercion in religion) and live, or die, with the results.
That this is not how the world is, and has not been since Muslim armies were turned back at the gates of Vienna, is a matter of extreme vexation to them. In fact it drives them into a bloody murderous rage and inspires them to fly hijacked planes into buildings in the hopes of killing as many as 50000 innocent people.
We here that the jihadists are only a small minority of the total number of Muslims, but when we search for them they seem nowhere to be found. Where is the "moderate majority" when the extremists" take to the streets in glee to celebrate a successful terrorist attack like 9/11? If they are truly 90% of the total then their demonstrations in support of the United States and Israel and against Hezbollah and al Qaeda and other terrorists should dwarf the pro-terrorists demonstrations. Why don't they?
If the "good Muslims" really outnumber the "bad Muslims" 9 to 1 then it would seem to be a simple matter for them to weed out the "bad apples". Let them pile up the dead bodies of the "extremists" and then the world can get back to normal.
Until that great day I think the world has every right to doubt the existance of the "moderate" Muslim.
