Saluda, part III


The Historic District is the block or so around the train depot, which is originally all that there was of the town.

During the leaf season this town will be crowded, but you will still be able to park and drive through without too much trouble.

But the first Saturday after the 4th of July is Coon Dog Day. People literally come from all over the world for this. You will have to park at least one mile away from town and walk or ride the shuttle. I don't have pictures of this because of the way I hate hot weather.

Next year if we have a cool July I'll try to make it over and take some pictures.

Here is the depot. As you can see it isn't being used by the railroad any more. More upscale shops.

I'm glad to see that they're serving Gelato. For too long ignorance and prejudice kept Gelato from being served in all too many places in the South.

But now Gelato can walk into any restaurant in the region and get a table.

No town built around a railroad depot would be complete without some kind of building that was made out of a caboose.
