Waynesville, NC

I was in Waynesville yesterday and had time to snap a few pictures.

This is Main St.

Because Main St. runs along a ridgeline every street running off from it goes downhill.

Remember how everybody was worried about how the "big box" stores locating on the edge of towns would kill the downtowns and leave them all borded up and abandoned?

Waynesville, like most other mountain towns in the region has gone upscale. This is because of all the rich Yankees retireing/summering in the area.

Find Asheville on a map and draw a 200 mile circle around it. This is the number 1 area in the nation for people to move to when they retire.

It has eclipsed Florida as a retirement area due to lower property values, and cost of living.

Also, unless you are one of those people who likes it miserably hot almost all the time our climate is better.

Here is a view from the parking deck.
