We are winning

Despite the concerns that the Party of "Cut, Run, Surrender and Appease" may be able to exploit the public's traditional tendency to vote against majority party incumbents in an off year election in a president's second term to turn over the handful of seats that they need to gain control of the House of Representitives for the next two years there is plenty of evidence out there that if you keep your focus on the big picture that the good guys are winning.

From USA Today:

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A state lawmaker, worried about a recent string of deadly school shootings, suggested arming teachers, principals and other school personnel as a safety measure and a deterrent.

Congressman suggests arming teachers

It might not be politically correct, but it has worked effectively in other countries, Republican Rep. Frank Lasee said Wednesday.

"To make our schools safe for our students to learn, all options should be on the table," he said. "Israel and Thailand have well-trained teachers carrying weapons and keeping their children safe from harm. It can work in Wisconsin."

In Thailand, where officials have been waging a bloody fight with Muslim separates for the last two years, some teachers carry weapons for self defense as they are viewed as part of the government. In Israel, teachers are not allowed to carry weapons in the school, but security guards at the entrances are armed.

Lasee said he planned to introduce legislation that would allow school personnel to carry concealed weapons. He stressed that it would hinge on school staff members getting strict training on the use of the weapons, and he acknowledged he would
have to work around a federal law that bans guns on school grounds.

Just 10 years ago legislation calling for stricter gun control would have already been introduced into half the state legislatures and campaigning Representatives and Senators would have been racing to be the first one to get to a TV camera and describe the national level gun control bill that they were going to introduce the nanosecond that they got back to Washington.

Cable and broadcast news would have been lined up out the door and around the building to interview Sarah Brady and Democrat leaders would have been telling anyone who would listen that these school shootings prove that Democrats must be elected because only they have the "courage" to take on the NRA.

NOW the debate is being driven by proposals to arm teachers.

Victory is possible. We can change the terms of the public debate. We can pull the political "center point" far enough in our direction that when something like this happens it is the other side that automatically has to go on the defensive.

This can happen in other areas as well. In every area you care to mention fact and logic are on the conservative side, just as they are in the gun control debate. It doesn't matter what the issue is taxes, abortion, national security or the environment, the conservative position will turn out to be the correct one.

All we have to do is convince people. Gibbon said that the spread of Christianity throughout the Roman Empire was aided by "the evident truth of the doctrine". Conservatism is the same.

The only reason that the Democrat Party survives is that so many people have sold their logical reasoning abilities for a government check or other benefit. The task before us is to demonstrate to them that they are better off without whatever goodie that the government is giving them because of all the other things it takes from them to pay for that goodie. For example we need to explain to people that the $1100.00 check that they can expect every month from Social Security has cost them a $5000.00 check every month from a private investment portfolio that they couldn't afford because of all the money that was taken from them to finance the Social Security Ponzi scheme.

So to sum up I would like to advise all my conservative readers to keep a positive outlook. Go out this November and vote Republican. And to all my conservative readers who have quit the Republican Party in disgust at the way that they have failed to live up to the hopes we all had for them when they took power and joined a third party I have this to say.

Grow the hell up. There are only two parties which can win an election for anything more important than the municipal water board or county dog catcher. If you vote Republican you will be disappointed much of the time, but you will get at least some of what you want. If you vote Democrat (and a vote for any other party is a practical vote for the Democrats) you will get none of what you want and an avalanche of what you do not want.

So quit your screaming, stop banging your rattle against your high chair, wipe the snot off your nose and go vote Republican. Otherwise stop calling yourself a conservative because if you cast a vote which helps put left-liberals in power then you are a left-liberal. Even if your car is plastered with pro-life bumper stickers. Even if you are the head deacon of the Antioch Baptist Church and a life member of the NRA, if you vote for any third party you are voting to make Nancy Pelosi the Speaker of the House and you are serving the left-wing cause as effectively as Cindy Sheehan.
