A house divided against itself. . .

Investors Business Daily editorializes about the House Of Representatives day of shame:

The party of John Murtha shamelessly seeks to defund and defeat U.S. troops on the battlefield and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The Congress the terrorists wanted is doing their bidding.

There's a reason the founders of this country designated a single commander in chief and placed the responsibility to wage war in the hands of the president. We saw recently the futility of having 100 commanders in chief when the Senate tried to pass a resolution of disapproval of the war in Iraq and couldn't agree on the terms of our surrender.

Now it's the House of Representatives' turn, led by Rep. John Murtha, who believes the fine young men and women we send to defeat terror and our sworn enemies are cold-blooded killers. While the House works on its own nonbinding resolution, Murtha has bigger plans and considers such a resolution only a prelude to the real battle in March over appropriations for the war.

As chairman of the House panel that oversees military spending, Murtha plans to advance legislation next month attaching strings to the additional war funds Bush requested on Feb. 5.

Murtha plans to stop the Iraq War by placing four conditions on combat funds through Sept. 30, the end of the fiscal year. The Pentagon would have to certify that troops being sent to Iraq are "fully combat ready" with training and equipment, troops must have at least one year at home between combat deployments, combat deployments cannot be longer than a year, and extending tours of duty would be prohibited.

"We're trying to force a redeployment not by taking money away, (but) by redirecting money," explained Murtha.

As we've noted on several occasions, Democratic talk of "redeployment" has encouraged terrorist groups around the world.

Jihad Jaara, a senior member of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, said before the 2006 vote: "Americans should vote Democratic," adding that "it is time the American people support those who want to take them out of the Iraqi mud." The statement could have come from Murtha, Kerry, Hillary or any number of Democrats.

We find it scary that the Democratic and terrorist game plans are indistinguishable.

Go and read the rest.

What I find most scary is that I am completely unsurprised. A US victory in Iraq would be a political disaster for the Democrat Party and they are determined to prevent it at almost any cost.

The President, Republicans in Congress and the American people need to wake up and realize that the Democrat party has aligned itself with al Qaeda and the fanatical Islamofascist mullahs in Iran. They are both working for exactly the same short term goal of US defeat.

Now I do not believe that the Democrats want what will follow a US withdrawal from Iraq. The fact is that if we run from Iraq the terrorists will see this as absolute proof that Allah has delivered us into their hands and the terrorism will follow us home. The kind of terrorism that Israel has been enduring for years will be upon us and because we will be unprepared for it at first the death toll will be horrible.

However the Democrats are blinded by their bottomless ambition and greed for power and by their frothing hatred for President Bush, the so-called "Bush Derangement Syndrome", which has caused all too many of them to lose contact with reality. They are literally unable to see the logically inevitable consequences of their actions. To them the jihadists will "see reason" after we retreat from Iraq and "reassess" our relationship with Israel. This, along with massive bribes cloaked as foreign aid, will, in their fantasy world, purchase peace and safety.

The fact that the Democrats psychotic disconnection from reality makes it impossible for them to foresee the long-term consequences of their actions does not, however, absolve them of responsibility for knowingly and deliberately aligning their short term actions with the nation's terrorist enemies. They are consciencely attempting to engineer the defeat of US forces on the battlefield so that the United States will lose a war for no other purpose than a short term political gain for their political party.

This is, whether it is prudent or tactful to say it, treason under the definition written into the Constitution. If this is not cause to question the patriotism of the Democrats (and the Republicans who voted for the non-binding resolution) there will never again be reason to question the patriotism of anyone else ever again in this nation's (what will prove to be short) future.

They are traitors, backstabbers, black-hearted betrayers. They stand in history along with Judas Iscariot, Benedict Arnold, Vidkun Quisling and the Vichy French. They do not deserve the high office they hold, in fact they do not deserve citizenship in the nation founded by men like Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.

That a majority of the citizens of this nation would have preferred them (if only by a slight majority) to other men who, although deeply flawed, would have never stooped to taking up arms and standing on the field of battle shoulder to shoulder with their nation's enemies sends a very troubling message about the character of this country. 2008 will reveal whether this was an aberration or a sign of a terminal moral cancer.
