File this under "being careful what you wish for"

From The Washington Post:

House Republicans plan to force a floor vote on the appointment of Rep. William J. Jefferson (D-La.), who is the subject of a federal bribery investigation, to a seat on the Homeland Security Committee.

The decision to put Jefferson on the panel was made by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), and House Democrats endorsed the move at a private meeting Tuesday night, but his appointment must be confirmed by a vote on the House floor. Such an action would normally be a formality, but Republicans said yesterday that they would pursue a rarely used maneuver to force a recorded vote on the matter.

"This is a terrible mistake by the Democratic leadership, to take someone with serious ethical allegations against him and put him on one of the most sensitive and important committees in Congress," said Rep. Peter T. King (N.Y.), the ranking Republican on the committee.

Pelosi ousted Jefferson from his seat on the powerful Ways and Means Committee in June after federal investigators raided his Capitol Hill office. In an earlier search of his home, $90,000 was found in a freezer. The money allegedly was accepted in a bribery sting involving an African technology company. Jefferson, who has not been charged, has maintained his innocence and was elected to a ninth term in December after a runoff election.

The Post has to say that Jefferson "allegedly" took the bribe because he hasn't been convicted yet. However he is on video tape accepting the money, which was recovered from his freezer, so there is no actual real-world doubt of his guilt.

This is a good strategy for the Republicans. San Fran Nan has made some extraordinarily stupid mistakes since becoming Speaker and has broken nearly every promise she made, especially the one about how "her" congress would be the most ethical in history. If the GOP can firmly fix the image of a lying, incompetent leftist out on her party's lunatic fringe (they will be assisted in this my Ms. Pelosi who really is all those things) then it will be much easier for Republicans to convince the "moderates" that they made a mistake in ousting the GOP from power.

Also the fact that the Congressional Black Caucus is accusing anyone who thinks that Jefferson should be treated like a man who did what he was caught on videotape doing is a racist, and that they are making the accusation in the loudest, crudest, stupidest and most offensive way possible will help Republicans. Every White, Asian and Hispanic person in the country (other than those who have accepted liberalism to the point of physical brain damage) knows that professional Blacks (and by this I do not mean Black professionals like doctors, lawyers, engineers and so on; I mean Blacks whose profession is being Black like Black politicians, civil rights activists and a large percentage of Black clergy) are at best dishonest vulgar bullies and at worst pure evil. Even conservative Blacks know this, which is why Dr. Walter Williams calls them "poverty pimps".

For Pelosi and the other House Democrats to be seen dancing on the Black Caucus' puppet strings will help demonstrate to the public the depth of their mistake in granting these people power.
