Have a look at the left's paybook

Reader Syndi calls this to our attention:

The Politics of Victimhood
by Rich Carroll

Democrat hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me. Nowhere is the zeitgeist of the socialist mentality more revealing than within the editorial pages of the New York Times. This weeks 'moral outrage' is Walter Reed Army Medical Center. "Our soldiers deserve better" beat the drum of no fewer than a dozen discordant writers hysterical over the latest "Bush blunder." Could these writers be the same people who, in their youth, waved "Baby Killer" picket-signs in front of returning Vietnam soldiers, or those who disgustingly picketed wounded soldiers in Walter Reed a few months ago? Could these be the same people calling cave dwelling Taliban murderers "victims" of Nazi U.S. military torture at Guantanamo Bay? Democrats, historically, have had scant interest in U.S. military personnel. An Army Recruiting office to a liberal is like a wooden stake to Dracula. Democrat leadership quotes document their contempt for our finest young soldiers, but alas, the overnight "concern" might gain them some votes; the feigned palpable panic over the safety and care of our soldiers by the secular humanist set is astonishing hypocrisy.

The left does not view military competence and victory as achievements that warrant any moral notice. American victory in war is a source of shame. It is a moral claim the defeated hold over us, no matter how evil and dangerous they were or how great a threat they posed to American life. The highest moral status an American soldier can hope for from Democrats is to be the object of their pity.

Philosophically, the left finds no valor on the battlefield, no moral achievements in victory because they believe the purposes that America pursues in war are amoral. They find no moral mission in a war that does "nothing more" than preserve the capacity of the individual to live his life as an individual, unbent and unconquered by an Islamic collective. To them, a war to preserve an individualist society is no different from a Hobbesian war of all against all. It is not a society fighting for broad, universal ideals; it's merely an amoral struggle for physical survival of its individual members. To Democrats, there is no valor in the battle for the American soldier. The Purple Heart ranks higher than the Silver Star.

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you and may posterity forget that ye were once our countrymen." Samuel Adams

Leftist Democrats create voters by creating "victims." As dead and wounded soldiers are "victims" of an unjust, capitalist, racist government policy, homosexuals and pedophiles are "victims" of hate and "narrow minded conservatives." A Democrat will call anything or anyone a "victim" if it will insure gaining a voter. Murderers and other criminals are now "victims," as are illegal aliens, lazy unconcerned parents of failing children, and shiftless 5th generation welfare recipients. The most ridiculous part of all this is that those finding a new group of losers to proclaim "victims," do so from their 19 bedroom home, yacht, jet, Malibu Beach mansion, or Northern California winery. Wealth lays a terrible burden of guilt on some. They must ease the pain of guilt with the rationalization "everyone else could live like me if they only had not been a "victim."
