More thoughts on the

DC Appeals Court Ruling

Remember that the court has no troops at its command to enforce its ruling. If the District's city government simply refuses to comply with the court's judgement and the rest of the federal government declines to intervene there is little that can be done about it.

Remember the situation in New Orleans. The police, on the orders of the Mayor and Chief of Police began confiscating the lawfully owned firearms of law abiding citizens. A federal judge has ruled the action to be illegal and has repeatedly ordered the return of the firearms.

However the city has a problem. It no longer has the guns. They were stolen by the police. New Orleans can't give the guns back to their rightful owners because they ain't there any more.

Rather than admit the widespread criminality of both their own police officers and the police officers who came to the city from other jurisdictions to "help out" the City has chosen to stonewall the court's order.

The judge knows that the cops made off with the guns and could force the issue by demanding to see the firearms himself. But he will not do this because it would then require the FBI and the BATFE to become involved. The investigation would involve practically the entire NOPD being sent to federal prison along with officers from departments all across the nation. It would strike a blow at the prestige of the police and give aid and comfort to the NRA.

The NRA knows the truth too, but will not press the point because it would make enemies out of too many cops. Cops will not love any organization which gets other cops put in jail and generally makes them look bad. The NRA is striving with all its might to hold together the old alliance between lawful gun owners and police. An alliance which is rapidly shattering against the truth that the overwhelming majority of police officers will willingly enforce any gun control law no matter how unconstitutional or downright evil.

So the judge repeatedly holds Nagan and the old Chief of Police in contempt and fines them, but will not send them to jail until they comply because that wold force them to tell the truth and place that truth into the record. So everybody just sits there trying to run out the clock.

The exact thing could very well happen in DC.
