Richard Baehr, writing on the American Thinker, has some thoughts on the Democrat primary fight:
As matters stand now, it looks like Obama could well be the Democrats' nominee. He has already pulled within 2-3% of Hillary on a Rasmussen poll and 4% on a CNN poll, and bettered her in total funds raised for the primary election by $5.7 million.
Six weeks ago, I wrote, "I suspect that there are nights where Hillary awakens screaming Obama's name with an epithet attached to it." My analysis at that time is being borne out. Hillary can't match the sort of rock star excitement Obama generates (20,000 at Georgia Tech Saturday) and her poll ratings are sagging.
Interestingly, John Edwards runs best against any of the potential GOP nominees at the moment. if Hillary craters, and and it becomes an Obama-Edwards race, it will be a race to the left, where Edwards is currently positioned furthest left.
I hope he's right. As far as left wingers go Hillary is the worst, but has successfully managed to position herself as a "moderate" as far as the mainstream media and the somnolent public is concerned. Obama, who had one of the most liberal voting records in the Illinois state legislature, has done little to move himself to the right and Edwards is running as a proud socialist.
An Obama/Edwards or Edwards/Obama ticket would fill the KrazyKozKidz and Moveon.org right up to the nose holes with pure glee, but would stand no chance whatsoever of actually winning. Especially if they were running against a Fred Thompson/Duncan Hunter or Tom Tancredo ticket.
And the best part is that it would lay to rest for at least a few election cycles (forever is too much to hope for) the line that the RINOs are forever trying to sell that the Republican Party must sell out its core principles to gain power.
A Julie Annie defeat would serve the same purpose, but would have the down side of leaving a Democrat in power.
