Is it too late or too soon?

Thomas Sowell writes one of his "random thoughts" colums in which he makes this observation:

When I see the worsening degeneracy in our politicians, our media, our educators, and our intelligentsia, I can't help wondering if the day may yet come when the only thing that can save this country is a military coup.

I must admit that I have had this thought as well and it fills me with fear. Well, two fears actaully. One is the fear that this may happen and the other is the fear that it may already be too late for this to happen.
