Tonight's Music

This video is of a couple of young girls riding their horses on a misty beach one morning, nicely done but that's not why I am posting it.

The music is what I want to share with you. This is Capercaillie's Dr. MacPhail's Reel and it is one of the most soothing pieces of music I've ever heard.

This tune appeared on their CD Delirium, on their compilation CD Dusk Till Dawn: The Best of Capercallieand is on their concert DVD The Capercaillie Collection 1990-1996 .

The primary musical instrument heard on this reel is the low whistle (sometimes called the concert whistle). This is a larger version of the penny whistle (or Irish whistle or tin whistle) which produces a note one or sometimes two octaves lower than the standard whistle.

The whistle is being played by Michael McGoldrick.
