It was bound to happen

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos Reports: Though often regarded as a longshot candidate for president, Republican Ron Paul tells ABC News that he has an impressive $2.4 million in cash on hand after raising an equal amount during the second quarter, putting him ahead of one-time Republican frontrunner John McCain, who reported this week he has only $2 million in the bank.

In an exclusive interview taped Friday and airing Sunday on "This Week," Paul said his campaign is on a better trajectory than McCain's.

Observers of this campaign season predicted that there would come a point where one of the insignificant also-rans would wind up having more money than John McCain.

Of course Paul shows himself to be as delusional as a Republican as he ever was as a Libertarian in imagining that this has anything to do with him. What is happening is that McCain is cratering in, as he was destined to do all along.

The proximate cause of McCain's implosion is his outspoken support for the late and unlamented amnesty bill. However the ultimate cause of McCain's political Ragnarok is his constant betrayal of his own party and its most dedicated supporters.

I once again call upon someone who cares about McCain to take him aside and explain to him that he needs to withdraw now before he humiliated himself any further.
