Bush wins again

From The Washington Post:

The nomination fight over attorney general nominee Michael B. Mukasey effectively came to an end yesterday, as two key Senate Democrats parted from their colleagues and announced their support for the former judge despite his controversial statements on torture.

The orchestrated announcements by Sens. Charles E. Schumer (N.Y.) and Dianne Feinstein (Calif.) virtually guarantee that Mukasey will be approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, to be followed by his likely confirmation in the full Senate later in the month.

The developments mark an important political victory for President Bush, who mounted a spirited and aggressive defense of Mukasey in recent days. They also underscore the pitfalls facing Democrats as the party struggles to stake out an independent policy on national security issues during a presidential campaign season.

First of all let me go on record saying that I fully support the use of torture, and I mean real torture not just waterboarding, on captured terrorists. In the first place torture works. Provided you have some information already in your possession which you can ask the prisoner about so that you can expose him in a lie or two. That way he doesn't know what you already know and will stop attempting to mislead you.

Soldiers and intelligence officers are no longer told not to talk under any circumstances. It is now known that anyone will break under enough torture and reveal information. The strategy now taught in the SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape) schools of all the services is to take as much as you can without breaking and then give the enemy just enough to make the torture stop. Then the next time make them start all over again.

The second reason I support torture for captured terrorists is that they deserve it. Their actions and attitudes merit the most severe treatment the human mind can devise.

If a terrorist gives up everything he knows then treat him well. If he calms up then squeeze him till he pops and then feed what's left to the pigs.
