This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. John 3:19, NASB
From American Thinker:
A controversial program at the University of Delaware that forced students to attend politically correct indoctrination sessions regarding race, gender, sexual orientation, and even illegal immigration has been dropped by the University as of yesterday.
The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) exposed the program earlier this week to which the University then responded by in effect, lying about what the program was all about, particularly the mandatory nature of it.
Since then, the University has frantically been trying to erase the record by deleting the parameters of the program from its website. Finally, after this gambit was exposed, University President Patrick Harker issued a statement terminating the program:
While I believe that recent press accounts misrepresent the purpose of the residential life program at the University of Delaware, there are questions about its practices that must be addressed and there are reasons for concern that the actual purpose is not being fulfilled. It is not feasible to evaluate these issues without a full and broad-based review.
Upon the recommendation of Vice President for Student Life Michael Gilbert and Director of Residence Life Kathleen Kerr, I have directed that the program be stopped immediately. No further activities under the current framework will be conducted.
Hot Air has an excellent background on the affair as well as extensive excerpts from what any observer would have to agree was an attempt to brainwash students to think and act a certain way.
This was a truly frightening development in higher education. It was as if every grievance group in America had a place at the table where they could berate white male students for all the evils in the world while kicking the United States in the bottom to boot.
Good riddance. And good job by FIRE in exposing this monstrosity.
There is one reason that this Orwellian nightmare was canceled. The light was shined on it in the new media and evildoers cannot tolerate the light. Notice how in the debates between the Republican presidential candidates they compete with each other over who is the most conservative but in the Democrat debates they will run from the word liberal like cockroaches from the kitchen light.
The term liberal has become so deeply associated with what the modern Democrat party actually stands for that Democrats have attempted to attach a new label to themselves. This is why they more and more call themselves progressives. Well, I'm a student of history and I know what the progressives were and I think the label fits the Democrats very well.
In case you weren't alive back at the turn of the century (19th to 20th) the progressives are the fine folks who gave us eugenics, prohibition and WWI. They also attempted to destroy the economy and cripple the nation by attacking the men who did things like tie the nation together with railroads and connect the US to the rest of the world with steamship lines. They attempted to destroy Standard Oil which had revolutionized the way business was done in the US by delivering high quality merchandise to customers in a professional manner at a low price.
Let the modern Democrats align themselves with the great progressives of the past. Women like Margaret Sanger who founded Planned Parenthood for the express purpose of ridding the nation, and eventually the world, of the inferior dark races. Men like Teddy Roosevelt (the most insane man ever to hold the presidency and will continue to be even if John McCain wins in '08) who said "The constitution ought not to stand in the way of the people getting the legislation that they want and need". If you like the idea of the constitution being a "living document" which means whatever the ruling class in Washington wants it to mean on any given day thank Teddy and the progressives.
You can see that what UD was attempting to do fits in very nicely with the actions of the left throughout American history.
