Fred drops out

It is 2:28 PM EST and Rush Limbaugh just reported that Fred Thompson has withdrawn from the Republican primary race. Drudge has the same thing on his front page.

I'll have more as it becomes available.

No word on an endorsement.

For those readers who believe in the power of prayer, pray that Fred puts the good of the nation above his friendship with John McCain.

This is a sad day for the Republican Party and for the USA. Fred was the only genuine conservative in the race and his rejection by the Republican voters portends dark days ahead for the Republic.
