The end may be in sight

From USA Today:

RALEIGH, N.C. — The end could be near.

Or the endgame, at least, of a surprisingly drawn-out Democratic presidential contest. Four months and 42 states after the opening Iowa caucuses, the primary in North Carolina on May 6 now looms as a pivotal final showdown between Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Obama starts with a double-digit lead in polls here, a state where 2,400 free tickets to his rally at the War Memorial Auditorium in Greensboro last week were gone within three hours of the announcement he would appear. But Clinton has appeal in the Tar Heel State, too, and is competing hard. The day after Obama's rally, she drew 1,000 supporters to the gym at Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville for a town hall meeting.

"I really believe May 6 has the potential to be everything," says Joe Trippi, a strategist for the presidential bids of former North Carolina senator John Edwards this year and Howard Dean in 2004. "Every day you see increased pressure on Hillary Clinton about why she's staying in, and if she could win in North Carolina it would shut down that kind of talk and open up the possibility she could get there" to the nomination.

"But if he wins in North Carolina," Trippi says of Obama, "I think you're going to see things close up very quickly. You'll see a lot of superdelegates line up behind him."

I basically agree with this analysis. Of course Hillary and Bill are going to fight to stay in the race with every ounce of energy in their bodies and they will be willing to use scorched earth tactics to do it.

The last thing they want is for B. Hussein Obama to be the next president because that would deny Hillary a chance to run again in 2012 and by 2016 she will simply be too old. This is her one chance to either get the nomination or ensure that the Dem ticket remains open for the next presidential election. That means that if she can't be the one being inaugurated next January she means to see that it is John McCain.

In the Clinton's world the next best thing to her winning the nomination would be a truly nasty fight at the convention. If Obama emerges the winner of this knife fight he will appear to many people to be just the latest king of the dunghill rather than the Simon-pure agent of change. It would leave such a bad taste in the voters mouths that McCain would win in a Reagan/Mondale type landslide.

This would give Hillary and her allies in the mainstream media, the academy and the Democrat party four years to demonize McCain and to help him craft a legislative record that would make it nearly impossible for him to be reelected, or for any other Republican to be elected either.

Hillary knows that McCain's most favorite thing in the whole world is to "cross the isle" and work with liberal Democrats on ways to advance the Left's agenda. His highest pleasure is when the New York Times and Tim Russert are praising him as a statesman and a maverick. By the time the Democrats hand him an amnesty/open borders bill, which he will sign - as long as it contains some kind of cosmetic border security measures with the empty promise that they will be in place before the amnesty provision kicks in. And a bill which contains global warming inspired regulations on the economy which will seriously reduce the average American's standard of living, which McCain will sign. And further restrictions on the freedom of speech under the guise of further campaign finance reform, which McCain will sign. And by the time that McCain appoints two liberal David Souter type justices to the Supreme Court, because they are the only kind of judges which can be confirmed, the Republican rank and file will be in open revolt.

Large numbers of those brain dead "conservatives" who were stupid enough to believe that filthy contemptible liar when he said that he "got it" and was a true conservative will realize that the entire McCain administration will be nothing more than a protracted anal rape of the conservative movement and the nation which conservatives love and seek to protect. They will burn with fury and they will not go out and vote for McCain again - even to keep Hillary out of the White House.

Hillary knows this. It is her "Plan B" if she fails to gain the nomination this time around.

The one thing which can, and probably will, derail her is the Democrat party leadership which wants to win this time around. If Hillary fails to win by double digits in Pennsylvania and then loses North Carolina the Party will take action. Hillary and Bill will never be persuaded by logic and reason and they have no genuine loyalty to party or nation to appeal to, but they can be bribed, threatened or outmaneuvered.

Bribery. Mrs Clinton could be offered the governorship of New York. This would give her executive experience and serve as an ideal launching pad for her next presidential run. Or she could be offered a seat on the Supreme Court, which is a lifetime appointment. Or the DNC could arrange for anonymous Middle Eastern and Asian "businessmen" to funnel a billion dollars into the Clinton Library and Massage Parlor. The US could remove itself from the UN Security Council which would open the way for an American citizen to become Secretary General, a post which Bill is known to covet.

Threats. The Clintons have spent their entire political lives managing the stay just one or two steps ahead of a grand jury. They have left a trail of bodies (figuratively and possibly even literally) behind them as they have climbed the ladder of power. Hillary's entire job at the Rose Law Firm was nothing but a cover for her to act as a bag man for Bill when he was Arkansas Attorney General and then Governor. All you had to to if you wanted to bribe Bill was hire Hillary to do your legal work and pay her fees far in excess of what any other lawyer in Arkansas earned at that time. No envelopes passing under the table of a smoky bar were necessary. Since leaving office Bill has turned his presidential library into a giant money laundering operation which, if the entire truth were known, would result in RICO convictions for him, his wife, half their friends and for all we know his daughter as well. And lets not even talk about the money the Red Chinese paid him for our nuclear secrets when he was president. All of this criminality has to leave a trail (and it has - the fact that I know about all this stuff to write about it shows that it was not truly covered up) which has been obscured just enough to prevent prosecution by the Clinton's allies and co-conspirators in government. If they suddenly stop protecting the Clintons and spill what they know to the Justice Dept. and the press Bill and Hillary could very well die in federal prison.

Outmaneuvered. If enough of the superdelegates announce themselves as committed to Obama after North Carolina he will be able to show that he has the votes to lock up the nomination. If enough of these people join Obama's cause it will not even matter if the Florida and Michigan delegates are seated. In fact if Obama locks up the superdelegates he will demand, and the DNC will agree, to have the FL and MI delegations seated. This will take the issue away from Hillary altogether. The threat and bribe scenarios come into play here as well because if the Clintons see themselves being outmaneuvered they will start calling in every IOU they have and will start making threats of their own. Since the Democrat party itself is little more than an ongoing criminal enterprise and since Bill and Hill have been its Don and Donna for the past 16 years they know where a great many bodies are buried. They will have to be pacified or otherwise silenced in some way. Giving each of them some kind of consolation prize would be the cheapest and cleanest way to get rid of them.

If you take from this that I am cynical and pessimistic about this election you are correct. I have stated before that America is well and truly screwed for the next four years, at least. There is no possibility of a good outcome this November - unless God has mercy on us and causes a giant meteorite to strike the venue where the candidates are having one of their debates, forcing both parties to start over. But while we can always pray for miracles we should never count on them.
