Conservative Common Man has a post about his displeasure over the current crop of presidential candidates of both parties. His summation is priceless:Obama and Clinton, in my opinion cannot be considered as reasonable choices for the presidency. I view either presidency as a great societal disease that needs to be prevented. This means that in my opinion, a John McCain presidency is an unfortunate side effect, something like the gas with oily discharge that is identified in the Xenical advertisements.
That is the best way I've ever heard the "lesser of evils" argument framed.
I have thought over the prospect of voting for the lesser evil. I have tried to convince myself that I would be voting against Clinton or Obama rather than for McCain. I have even voted that way in the past. Voting against Bill Clinton rather than for George H.W. Bush or Bob Dole however I cannot do that this time.
If you vote for someone you are affirming them and you become a participant in whatever they do. Good or bad you own the results.
The argument that you will aid one candidate by withholding your vote from another is invalid. You are not supporting one person, in the affirmative sense, by failing to support another.
I will not give my consent to have Barack Obama, John McCain or Hillary Clinton lead my nation's government. If any of them get to the Oval Office they will have to do it without me.
Originally my intention was to simply leave the part of the ballot dealing with the presidency blank however I have since heard that Bob Barr might run as the Libertarian Party candidate and Alan Keyes might seek the nomination of the Constitution Party. Now neither of these men or the parties they will represent have the slightest chance of winning the election however they both hold beliefs which a person of conscience can vote for.
Whatever I do regarding the presidency I will go to the polls and vote for Republicans Pat McHenry for the House and Elizabeth Dole for the Senate. Both solid conservatives with proven track records who deserve all the support that North Carolinian can give them.
