In yesterday's primaries in Kentucky Hillary Clinton won with 67% to Obama's 30%. In Oregon Obama won with 58% to Clinton's 42%.
Obama now has a majority of pledged delegates while Clinton's victory in Kentucky has her vowing to continue in the race until the convention.
The modern Democrat party is built upon a foundation of identity politics, grievance and entitlement. The minute a racial minority went head to head with a woman in the Democrat primary an internal meltdown of exactly this nature was guaranteed.
Democrats are still favored to win the White House in November. The RCP poll averages still show either Clinton or Obama defeating McCain, but every time the two campaigns exchange accusations of racism and sexism they make it a little more difficult for the party to unify.
On the Republican side John McCain was still unable to gain as many as three quarters of the Republican vote despite already having the nomination sewed up. This persistent inability to unify the party is going to be the greatest obstacle in the way of McCain's election and may wind up costing him that election.
Only one thing is certain this year. Whoever wins in November the nation will lose.
