A measure of justice at last

On his last full day in office, President Bush commuted the controversial sentences of two former Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a Mexican drug runner in 2005.

The imprisonment of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean had sparked outcry from critics who said the men were just doing their jobs and were punished too harshly. They had been sentenced to 11- and 12-year sentences, respectively.

Their sentences will now expire on March 20 of this year.

Ramos and Compean were sentenced in connection with the shooting of Osvaldo Aldrete Davila, who was shot in the buttocks while trying to flee along the Texas border. He admitted smuggling several hundred pounds of marijuana on the day he was shot and pleaded guilty last year to drug charges related to two other smuggling attempts.

The pair's case ignited debate across the country, as a chorus of organizations and members of Congress -- many of them Republican -- argued that the men were just doing their jobs. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., was particularly outspoken on the issue, at one time describing Ramos and Compean as "unjustly convicted men who never should have been prosecuted in the first place."

Rohrabacher applauded Bush on Monday, telling FOXNews.com "his own stubbornness was overcome by better parts of his own soul."

"The order ... reaffirms our faith that the system works, if indeed the American people are willing to work at it," he said.

Nearly the entire congressional delegation from Texas and other lawmakers from both sides of the political aisle pleaded with Bush to grant them clemency. Conservatives hailed Bush's decision Monday.

"The whole thing was ridiculous from beginning to end, and two years was way too long for them to serve," said radio talk show host Laura Ingraham. "Conservatives are very happy across the country."

Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, said in a written statement that Bush had "responded to the calls for compassion that came from across the country and made the right decision in granting these two men commutations."

This is good news indeed, although it remains a tragedy that these two men had to spend even one second behind bars. And that they will still have to carry around undeserved felony convictions for the rest of their lives.

McCain shows his true colors in closed meetings with Hispanics

John McCain has been traveling across the nation having "private" meetings with Latino voters. Here is an eyewitness report from one of those meetings held in downtown Chicago:

.....Personally as an Original Minuteman who attended the Historic Minuteman Border Watch in 2005 on the Arizona/ Mexico border and returnig 2 more times for a tour of duty along our southern Border, I was especially looking forward to what John Mc Cain would say about illegal immigration.

This was a NO MEDIA ALLOWED EVENT! That is why I am reporting back to you, all of you folks who have fought so hard with your phone calls to Washington D.C. last summer, shutting down the Washington DC switch board and defeating the AMNESTY BILL. I am reporting back to you those of you who work tirelessly in your local cities and towns trying to get some public elected official to care and enforce the rule of law.

I was told by my friend and fellow Hispanic Marianne Davies who is on the board of "You Don't Speak for Me" that John Mc Cain has been going across the country having "PRIVATE" meetings with Hispanics.

Although the inviation said we would be able to ask questions, that "question " time with John Mc Cain never happened. That was ok with me, I never had the intention of asking a question, I knew exactly the kind of open borders crowd I was with.

John Mc Cain's favorite words of the evening were Comprehensive Immigration Reform. But he started out first of all saying if he is gonna win the Presidential election he will need the support of the Latino community.

He said " My state has been enriched by the Hispanic culture in Arizona."

Then John MC Cain asked a question "Did you know this? I bet some of you did not know that Spanish was spoken in Arizona before English" ...Loud cheers from the audience. (Ok John Mc Cain What is your AZATLAN POINT?)

Then he said " I want to have some straight talk about our relationship with Mexico,our closest neighbor and dearest friend" He talked about the Mexican President fighting the drug cartels.

Then John Mc Cain aid the exact thing I came to hear, he said "I was proud to work for Comprehensive Immigration Reform and If I am elected President I assure you that in 2009 I will ask Congress to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform." (The crowd goes wild)"It is a Federal Responsibility" he said and continued " we also need a temporary guest worker program"

He then told a story about a day laborer who got picked up this morning, worked all day and then never got paid...We have no Federal Policy, we cannot allow this to happen, he said, He repeated I assure you that I will work for Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

John McCain talked about a debate he was in about enforcing the law and he says that the "other side had a lot of "Rhetoric" "you know what I am talking about!" he said.

I guess the most telling event of the evening was a certain person who was in the room. From my own account he is the God Father of the massive illegal alien movement in Illinois. He is a Democrat and part of the HDO, Martin Sandoval - serves on a Mexican government advisory council. In fact, you can see his name on this list of their advisors:

Exactly which country is he representing at this rally for John Mc Cain?

Martin Sandoval, Illinois senator, wants to represent Mexicans too Martin Sandoval is a state Senator from Illinois. He's also running for a seat on Mexico's "Institute for Mexicans Abroad" advisory council: Sandoval would be the first elected official in the U.S. to serve on the advisory council. That raises the peculiar prospect of the Cicero Democrat offering policy advice in an official capacity to Mexican Cabinet members while creating laws in Illinois...

As it turns out, no law or rule prohibits it, in Mexico or in Illinois. Mexican officials call it an honorary position...

... "I see no conflict at any point. There are always people who will have questions," [Sandoval] said. "I have looked at the four corners of this. I see upside all over the place."

Sandoval said his participation is especially logical because a large share of his constituents were born in Mexico. More than 42 percent of Sandoval's Senate district is foreign-born, the second-highest rate in the state...

NOW we see what kind of folks are interested in getting John McCain in office.

In a televised interview with Sean Hannity McCain looked Mr. Hannity in the eye and promised to veto any bill which contained amnesty for illegal aliens.

McCain, as is his habit, lied through his teeth.

John McCain has been for amnesty. John McCain is for amnesty and John McCain will always be for amnesty. It is just that simple. If you vote for John McCain you are voting for amnesty. If you vote for John McCain you are voting to add 14-17 million Mexicans to the American electorate, 70% of whom will vote Democrat in every election. That means that a vote for John McCain is a vote to guarantee that Ronald Reagan will have been the last conservative ever elected to the office of President of the United States.

Vote for McCain if you must but remember that you will be voting for ending the United States as a free and prosperous nation.

Latest from the grapevine

I have heard a rumor, which I consider reliable, that ICE employees whose jobs involve processing applications from aliens who which to become legal residents have been warned to expect a general amnesty for illegals in the first half of 2009 regardless of who wins the presidential election.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that with he nation's choice being either Obama, McCain or Clinton for president and the certainty of a congress firmly under Democrat control that amnesty will be a done deal.

However the fact that the immigration bureaucrats are being told to look for amnesty in the first few months of next year would seem to indicate that amnesty is going to be the first priority of the next administration.

This makes some sense politically in that it will come at a time when the media will be distracted by covering the transition to the new presidential administration. This will give the House members nearly two full years to send enough pork back to the districts to make people forget the way they betrayed the nation.

Of course you can forget about any kind of earmark reform even if McCain is elected because that pork is going to have to come from somewhere.

The purpose of amnesty is to legalize the 20-30 million Mexicans who are in this nation illegally. The ultimate goal is to create a quick and easy path to citizenship for these new legal residents in order to swell the ranks of the Democrat party so that will never again risk losing the White House or the Senate (and probably not the house either).

After 15 or 20 years of this either that civil war that no one thinks is possible will occur or else the USA will have become the USSA and only the unfortunate location of an ocean will be standing in the way of America joining the European Union.

We must have been cursed by an ancient Chinaman because these are "interesting" times indeed.

McCain is back to supporting amnesty

Michelle Malkin reminds us that she wrote this on January 23, 2008:

After spearheading a disastrous, security-undermining illegal alien amnesty bill last year with Teddy Kennedy, “straight-talking” GOP Sen. John McCain claims he has seen the light. In TV appearances, he vows to put immigration enforcement first. On the campaign trail, he offers a perfunctory promise to strengthen border security and emphasizes the need to restore Americans’ trust in their government’s ability to defend the homeland.

“I got the message,” he told voters in South Carolina. “We will secure the borders first.”

But how can McCain cure citizens’ distrust when his own credibility on the issue remains fatally damaged? He doesn’t believe his own election-year spin. And he knows we know it. This is cynicism on steroids with a speedball chaser.

Not all of us have forgotten how the short-fused Arizona senator cursed good-faith opponents in his own party (“F**k you!” and “Chickensh*t” were the choice words he had for Texas GOP Sen. John Cornyn during a spat over enforcement provisions). Not all of us have forgotten that he voted against barring felons from receiving amnesty benefits under his plan. Not all of us have forgotten the underhanded, debate-sabotaging manner in which McCain/Kennedy/Graham/Harry Reid conspired to ram their package down voters’ throats.

His admission of the shamnesty failure is grudging and bitter. While he now tells conservative voters what they want to hear about the need to build the southern border fence, he takes a contemptuous tone toward physical barriers when talking to businessmen. “By the way, I think the fence is least effective,” he told executives in Milwaukee, according to a recent Vanity Fair profile. “But I’ll build the goddamned fence if they want it.” Straight talk? Try hate talk.

For all his supposed, newfound enlightenment about what most Americans want—protection against invasion, commitment to the rule of law, meaningful employer sanctions, an end to sanctuary cities, enforcement-by-attrition plus deportation reform, and an end to special illegal alien benefits that invite more law-breaking–The Maverick remains a Geraldo Rivera Republican. Like the ethnocentric cable TV host who can’t string a sentence about immigration together without drowning in emotional demagoguery, McCain naturally resorts to open-borders platitudes when pressed for enforcement specifics.

She then goes on to note that McCain has reneged on his pledge to oppose amnesty and support a stand-alone border security bill:

And, now, straight from the campaign trail with Arnold “Move Left” Schwarzenegger, McCain has shed every last pretense that he “got the message” from grass-roots immigration enforcement proponents and is back to his full, open-borders shamnesty push. No surprise to any of you. But his complete regression back to the “comprehensive immigration reform” euphemism is a notable milestone.

Here is the question that all of you McCain kool-aid drinkers have to ask yourself. If McCain can't even pretend to be a conservative until this November then what is he going to be like after next January, assuming that he wins the election?

Is there anyone out there who still thinks that McCain is going to be some kind of "bulwark" against the Left?

PS - How long do you suppose that it will take McCain to call Malkin an "Asian whore"?
