Tonight's Music
This is my favorite Karan Casey number. It is called Buile Mo Chroi (The Beat of My Heart). It is from her CD The Winds Begin to Sing.
Here are the lyrics:
Music - John Spillane, Words - Louis De Paor. (Arr. Karan Casey/Donald Shaw/Robbie Overson/Mike McGoldrick)An gcloiseann tú bualadh mo chroí
Buile mo chroí
Greadadh mo chroí
An gcloiseann tú greadadh mo chroí
Are you hearing the beat of my heart
The bang of my heart
The scrape of my heart
Are you hearing the scrape of my heart
An mbraitheann tú cuisle mo chroí
I dtearmann do lámha
I ngéibheann do ghrá
An mbraitheann tú cuisle mo chroí
Are you feeling the pulse of my heart
In the palm of your hand
In the jail of your love
Are you feeling the pulse of my heart
Tá botún sa tsaol
Nach maithim do Dhia
An ghrian i do shúil
Ag teacht idir mé agus solas an lae
Tá botún sa tsaol
There’s a fault in this world
And I won’t forgive God
The sun in your eye
That comes between me and the light of the sky
There’s a fault in this world
An gcloiseann tú bualadh mo chroí
Buile mo chroí
Briseadh mo chroí
An gcloiseann tú briseadh mo chroí
Are you hearing the beat of my heart
The pain of my heart
The break of my heart
Are you hearing the break of my heart
Tá cóta an athar
Ró-mhór dá mhac
A bhróga caite
Ar chosa mo mhic
Ag bualadh mo chroí
Greadadh mo chroí
Stracadh mo chroí
An mbraitheann tú caitheamh mo chroí
Your old man’s coat
Is too big for you boy
His worn out shoes
On the feet of my son
Kicking my heart
Breaking my heart
A tearing my heart
Are you wearing the tear of my heart
Tá cóta an athar
Ró-mhór dá mhac
A bhróga caite
Ar chosa mo mhic
Ag bualadh mo chroí
Greadadh mo chroí
Stracadh mo chroí
An mbraitheann tú caitheamh mo chroí
Your old man’s coat
Is too big for you boy
His worn out shoes
On the feet of my son
Kicking my heart
Breaking my heart
A tearing my heart
Are you wearing the tear of my heart
Sioscadh mo chroí
Doirteadh mo chroí,
An gcloiseann tú doirteadh mo chroí
Ciúnas mo chroí
Uaigneas mo chroí
An gcloiseann tú uaigneas mo chroí
Cogar a chroí

Tonight's Music
This is emerging Irish-American supergroup Solas performing On A Sea Of Fleur De Lis from their new CD/DVD release Reunion: A Decade of Solas .
Origianal band member Karan Casey re-joines the group for several of the songs which she originally recorded with them.
This CD/DVD set is a very good value in that you get an extended length CD plus a full concert on DVD with extra interviews and several songs which didn't make it on to the CD.

Tonight's Music
My local public radio station has a really good Celtic music program on Sunday afternoon and I heard this Karen Casey song on my way home from lunch today and was reminded how much I love it. So here it is even though I have posted it before.
This is Another Day from the CD Distant Shore . Karen is backed up by Sara Wakins of Nickel Creek and the band Lunasa.
Lunasa is coming to Asheville in March of next year!!!!!
This post is dedicated to Beth. I hope it does some tiny little thing to lift your spirits.

Tonight's Music
This is Karan Casey singing Buile Mo Chroi (which means either "The Pain in My Heart or The Beat of My Heart) from her CD The Winds Begin to Sing.
I had posted this video a few months ago, but the link became dead so I am reposting it. I want those who link in for the music posts to continue to have access to it.
Notice that Donald Shaw is playing the piano on this video. He also is on the CD along with Michael McGoldrick on the pipes. The singing is in both English and Gaelic and the overall "feel" of the song is a kind of Celtic roadhouse blues.
