Handgunning

A reader points out the following: "You are 92% more likely to a handgun at someone that is between 7-10 yards than any other distance."

This is very true. However let me ask you a question. You are on an airplane with 99 other people and the captain makes the anouncement that anyone who wants to put on a parachute can, but that this is the one and only chance to do so. Furthermore at some point in the flight 8 of the passangers, chosen at random, will be thrown out of the plane. What would you do? 92% are pretty good odds, but are they that good?
