Saluda, part II

Saluda is a pretty town. Like so many other places in the mountains it is going upscale due to the large number of rich Yankees retiring here.

Of course the old "small town South" survives here as well.

In some places the old and new meet.

At Ward's you can look over the wine list while they box up your roofing nails and fetch your bucket of nightcrawlers.

Then some places ain't nothing but upscale.

With outdoor dining.

And a menu to match.

Notice how adding the word "Tuscan" and calling it "chowder" makes the navy bean and fish soup sound like its worth paying $8.95 for.

Seriously, the food here is really good.
