There is a very good Second Amendment blog out there called War On Guns. WOG is run by gunwriter/2amd activist David Codrea. One of the things David does is lampoon pompous law enforcement types who maintain that they are the "Only Ones" who are well trained and professional enough to carry firearms. Now if you shoot regularly at public ranges you will soon see that the average police officer is not a "gun person".
The fact is that most cops (not all, but most) don't know any more about firearms than they learned in a 40 hour academy course (however many years ago that they attended the academy) and only shoot when their department forces them to do so. Most of them secretly wish that they didn't have to carry a gun at all because they look at it as something that can get them into trouble. Trouble if they fail to maintain it properly and get gigged at an inspection, trouble if they fail to qualify with it and most especially trouble if they have to shoot it in the line of duty.
As a way of driving home the point that the police are not some special anointed class which possesses unique knowledge making them the ONLY ONES who can be trusted with guns David publishes stories highlighting police negligence with firearms. From time to time he has a Carnival of the Only Ones where he links to stories published on other blogs about police firearms negligence. Here is the latest.
It is in that spirit that I offer this video. It has been making the rounds for some time and is genuine. What makes it priceless is that just as the DEA agent is puffing up his chest and talking about how he is the Only One in the room professional enough to carry a gun (which he ignorantly identifies as a "Glock 40" - hint, Glock model numbers haven't made it up to 40 yet) he has a negligent discharge and shoots himself in the foot. Now it wasn't an accidental discharge in that the gun didn't malfunction, what happened to the fool is that he didn't follow the safety rules and fired the gun without intending to do so. In other words he screwed up. At least he didn't kill one of the kids in the room.
So, all you bloggers out there if you run across a story about some cop acting like a moron with his gun post a story about it and send David a link so that he can include it in his next carnival.
Hat Tip to Fits for turning me on to the War On Guns blog and the video.
