The traitors think they're winning. Are they?

From The Washington Post:

After a week at home with their constituents, the Senate architects of a delicate immigration compromise are increasingly convinced that they will hold together this week to pass an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws, with momentum building behind one unifying theme: Today's immigration system is too broken to go unaddressed.

Congress's week-long Memorial Day recess was expected to leave the bill in tatters. But with a week of action set to begin today, the legislation's champions say they believe that the voices of opposition, especially from conservatives, represent a small segment of public opinion. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), who led negotiations on the bill for his party, said the flood of angry calls and protests that greeted the deal two weeks ago has since receded every day.

"You just have to recognize you will get 300 calls, you'll get conflicts at town hall meetings -- all of them negative," said Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), who consulted with Kyl and hopes to carry a similar deal through the House in July. "The last few days have really turned things around."

People had their say and realized that their words were falling on deaf ears.

Public opinion polls seem to support Kyl's contention that Americans are far more open to the deal than the voices of opposition would indicate. In a Washington Post-ABC News poll released today, 52 percent of Americans said they would support a program giving illegal immigrants the right to stay and work in the United States if they pay a fine and meet other requirements. Opposition to that proposal was 44 percent.

Yes, you can do what amounts to push polling and get any answer you set out to get.

This abomination has to get through the House and San Fran Nan will not let it go forward unless she gets enough Republicans so sign on to it to give the Democrats cover. She has said that number is 70. It ought to be possible to keep enough House Republicans on the reservation to prevent that.

However it serves to highlight the depth of the mistake which the American people made last November when they turned control of the House over to the Hate America Party.

Once again let's get down to the brass tacks on this. We know why the Democrats are supporting this thing. They have managed to abort 30 million children two-thirds of which would have grown up to be Democrat voters. They need replacement deadbeats or they will go the way of the dinosaurs.

This is the dirty little secret of legalized abortion in the context of a welfare state. It can not sustain itself in Darwinian terms. Every generation the population self selects for people who hold traditional family values. As the generations go by the sort of people who vote Republican become more numerous while the sort of people who vote Democrat age and die.

This explains the Democrats. They need a constant influx of ignorant unskilled peons to become dependant on their largess (and clean their toilets and mow their lawns) to keep them in power.

What explains the Republicans I can only guess at and my guess is this:

Some Republicans are just shit-all stupid. For an example of this you need look no further than Lindsey Graham, the borderline retarded corn-pone phony who seems to think that he was elected to the Senate to represent John McCain rather than the people of South Carolina. But most of the men and women who can get elected to the House or Senate are not complete meatheads.

So what explains the Republicans who are willing and even eager to throw the Democrat Party a lifeline so that it does not become extinct? Especially when the price of saving the Democrat Party is killing the Republican Party. I believe that the Republican supporters of this amnesty bill who are not stupid enough to believe that Mexicans will vote Republican just because they are Catholic and have large families fall into two camps.

One camp is the Business Uber Allis coalition. They believe that cheap labor is the key to a prosperous economy. There is some truth in this, but not in the way that the cheap labor desiring business community and their bought-and-paid-for congressmen think there is. The "Y2K Bug" didn't harm the world's economy or even put out one light bulb because India has tens of thousands of competent computer programmers who work for peanuts. Wal Mart is able to stock its shelves with good quality merchandise at very reasonable prices because China has hundreds of millions of peasants who work in sweat shops for peanuts. This enables American working class people to have a higher standard of living than they otherwise would and helps keep some of the pressure off employers to raise wages. Their employees don't need as much to live so they don't have to demand as much to work.

However the reason why the cheap labor of India and China benefits America is because America does not have to pay the social costs of that cheap labor. Workers in China and India are not eligible for America's social service safety net. They can not go on welfare and get food stamps or housing assistance. They can not show up at an American hospital's emergency room for what amounts to free primary care. They do not put their children into American public schools to eat "free" lunches on the American taxpayers dime, nor do their children require school districts to hire extra employees in order to teach those children in Hindi or Chinese. And when Indian and Chinese workers retire in India and China they do not draw American Social Security checks every month and have their doctor bills paid by Medicare.

Mexicans who come to the US to work cheap will go on welfare (around 40% of them) and they will put their kids in American public schools and demand bilingual education and they will clog our emergency rooms with health issues that should be taken care of by a family doctor (and never pay their bill, driving up health care costs for the rest of us). And they will draw Social Security and Medicare when they grow old. And they will commit crimes at a rate significantly higher than the native population and fill our prisons so that they become even more of a revolving door making our streets that much less safe and forcing our society to pay the costs associated with both property crime and violent crime.

The truth is that even when you factor in the amount of money added to the economy by those Mexicans who do get jobs and work hard and obey the law (other than the ones they broke when they came here and used false identification to get their job in the first place) they still drain out more money in social services than they contribute. Businesses know this and do not care because they are able to spread the true costs of their "cheap" labor out over the entire society. The increase in profit to the individual employer is greater than the increase in taxes that the individual employer is forced to pay. So for them and their tame senators it is a good deal, but for the rest of us who see our paychecks get smaller as the tax man takes a bigger bite and who see the cost of health care go up while the quality goes down and who see our children's schools become less and less able to educate even as their price tag goes higher and higher it is not such a good deal. Add to this the economy wide downward pressure on wages which comes with an influx of millions of people willing to work for much less money and enjoy a much lower standard of living and it becomes a very bad deal indeed.

Then the deal gets exponentially worse. Because when the now illegal Mexicans are given citizenship they can do what unskilled, ignorant and poor people do and vote Democrats into office who will cement policies into place which are guaranteed to keep the Mexican voters poor, ignorant and unskilled so that they will continue to vote Democrat. Think about the havoc which was inflicted on America's black community by the welfare state's destruction of the black family and the black work ethic and imagine it on a much larger scale as it works its malevolent magic on a Mexican-American community that will be three or four times more numerous than blacks.

As Democrats gain an unbreakable hold on power both the mask and the gloves will come off and their true nature will be revealed. The still ongoing economic expansion caused by Reagan's marginal tax rate reductions will be undone by substantial tax increases an the economy will slip back into a Carter-era semi permanent recession where each day's economic news will be dominated by speculation about whether the interest rates will increase by a higher percentage than the inflation rate or vice versa. America's unemployment rate, currently the lowest in the Western world will rise to European Union double digit levels and stay there. Environmental regulations predicated on the full acceptance of the global warming hoax will further hamstring business an increase cost of living, raise unemployment even higher and further shrink America's tax base.

But enough about the short-sighted business camp pushing for amnesty and open borders. I said there were two camps and the other is the defeatist camp. These are the Republicans who believe that for better or worse America's conservative moment has passed. They believe that the nation is fated to move to the left and that nothing can stop it. What they are doing with immigration reform is attempting to get in on the ground floor of the new American political dynamic where the great issue in every election will be which party can be the most efficient manager for the welfare state.

Some of the Republicans in this camp are liberals who think that all of this is a fine thing and that the country will be better off for it. And some are true conservatives who have internalized defeat and just don't have any fight left in them any more.

Members of both of these groups, along with the Democrats, know that the worst of the negative impacts of amnesty and open borders will take decades to fully manifest. Most of them are older people who know that they will probably not be alive when America finally becomes indistinguishable from Mexico or Venezuela. Others believe that they and their families are wealthy enough to continue to live isolated from the effects of what they are doing. After all if home to you is a gated community where the only dark skinned people you see are drivers, maids, cooks and yard boys what do you care what life is like out in the middle and working class neighborhoods. If things start to get bad the homeowners association can always make the walls a little higher and hire a few more guards for the gates.

You may wonder where I put the president in all of this. Frankly I'm beginning to think that he's riding the short bus with Lindsey Graham.
