KING, N.C. -- Authorities lifted a curfew and alcohol restrictions in King on Sunday, but said a state of emergency declaration remained in effect until Monday.

Authorities said the state of emergency declaration would continue until Monday 9 a.m., barring any unforeseen circumstances or severe changes.

Effective Sunday afternoon, alcohol restrictions and a curfew were lifted. All other remaining restrictions would continue until Monday, said Paula May, King police chief.

Other restrictions include a ban on the sale or purchase of any type of firearm, ammunition, explosive or any possession of such items off a person's own premises.

Also on Sunday, the emergency shelter established by the American red Cross at West Stokes High School was closed."

We appreciate the support and cooperation of everyone with our efforts to keep the citizens of King safe," May said.

The state of emergency was declared Friday due to severe weather.

The sad thing is that King, NC is located not far from Mt. Airy, the inspiration for Mayberry. I really don't see Andy and Barny tossing people in jail for toting a pistol in a snowstorm.

NC school bans the Stars and Stripes

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. – On the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, students at one high school were not allowed to wear clothes with an American flag.

Under a new school rule, students at Hobbton High School are not allowed to wear items with flags, from any country, including the United States.

The new rule stems from a controversy over students wearing shirts bearing flags of other countries.

Gayle Langston said her daughter, Jessica, was told to remove her Stars and Stripes t-shirt.

“Today she wanted to wear her shirt, and I had to tell her no,” said Langston. “She didn't like it at all because I knew it would get her in trouble. Of all days, 9/11, she could not wear her American Flag shirt.”

The superintendent of schools in Sampson County calls the situation unfortunate, but says educators didn’t want to be forced to pick and choose which flags should be permissible.

Sampson County is down east. I love North Carolina, but what you have to understand is that anything east of Statesville is one giant open pit latrine. The central part of the state (Raleigh/Durham) is like a little slice of New Jersey transplanted south and plopped down like a cow pie in a pasture.

This, of course, excepts the coastal area which is nice.

BTY, what do you want to bet that the rule was cooked up because the children of alien criminal beaners were wearing Mexican flags and some of the real American kids took exception.

UPDATE:

Superintendent Dr. L. Stewart Hobbs, Jr said they have lifted the ban on flags and “from this point on, all dress code changes will be made at the school board level.”

You don't tell real Americans they can't wear the flag. Especially on 9/11.
