Tonight's Music

Tonight we bring you three versions of the Frankie Goes to Hollywood video for their massively popular song Relax.

This is often identified as the original version because it saw heavy play on MTV and NBC's Friday Night Videos and preceded the following version which was taken from the Brian De Palma movie Body Double. Fair warning, don't watch this if you are likely to be offended by seeing Melanie Griffith's naked rear end.

this was sometimes labeled "Version Two" when it aired but it was actually the third version of the video to be produced. The actual "original version" was shown only a few times on the BBC before being banned (the record was also banned from the radio after a DJ bothered to actually listen to the words - the record was stopped literally in mid play).

Here, for the first time on this blog, is the "banned" version of Relax. Fair warning! Don't watch this if you are likely to get freaked out by something that is gayer than a Perez Hilton vlog.

This video is said to feature several well known gay celebrities including Angus Young from AC/DC, and Freddie Mercury from Queen.

Here are the lyrics:

Oh oh
Wee-ell-Now!

Relax don't do it
When you want to go to it
Relax don't do it
When you want to come
Relax don't do it
When you want to come
When you want to come

Relax don't do it
When you want to to go to it
Relax don't do it
When you want to come
Relax don't do it
When you want to suck to it
Relax don't do it
When you want to come
Come-oh oh oh

But shoot it in the right direction
Make making it your intention-ooh yeah
Live those dreams
Scheme those schemes
Got to hit me
Hit me
Hit me with those laser beams

I'm coming
I'm coming-yeah

Relax don't do it
When you want to go to it
Relax don't do it
When you want to come

Relax don't do it
When you want to suck to it
Relax don't do it (love)
When you want to come
When you want to come
When you want to come
Come-huh

Get it up
The scene of love
Oh feel it

Relax
Higher higher

Hey-
Pray

Tonight's Music

This is Wang Chung, one of my favorite bands from the 80's.

And now to take a break from all the serious crap and have a bit of fun. Here are a couple of videos from the new B-52's CD Funplex. The first is Juliet of the Spirits. The title comes from a 1965 surrealist drama film about an Italian housewife, directed by Federico Fellini. The video was put together with scenes from the movie and is the product of a fan, not an official work of the band.

Next is another fan video (the same fan, actually) featuring the song Eyes Wide Open.

Next is the band's official video for the song Funplex:

Tonight's Music

Now for something completely different. Here is the other kind of music that I like:

This is Shriekback performing Nemesis. Come on, how many of you thought you would ever hear the word parthenogenesis used in a song?

Here is a video that someone put together around Shriekback's Underwaterboys. I like it because like Fata Morgana I like the sound of explosions. You know some people need nothing else.

Here are some other Shriekback classics. This one is The Fish Below the Ice.

This is This Big Hush, which was featured in the movie Manhunter (the first movie based on Thomas Harris's novel The Red Dragon). This movie had several Shriekback numbers in it. The producer, Michael Mann (of Miami Vice fame) had a talent for mating his visual images with just the right piece of music to convey the mood of the moment.

Tonight's Music

Tonight we have our final St. Patrick's Day video. This is Blue Man Group's cover of a Who tune.

What, you might ask is the St. Patrick's Day/Celtic/Irish tie-in. The title of the song is Baba O'Riley.

Tonight's Music

Since I am promoting the Biltmore Estate's Summer Evening Concers I'll be breaking with the Celtic and Medieval music tradition for next few days and showing videos from each of the acts which will be appearing this year.

Here is the first. Chris Isaac's video for the song Wicked Game. This is off of his CD Heart Shaped World.
