Are we the party of ‘NO’?

Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Dianne Feinstein, et al, have gone on record to call the Republican Party ‘The Party of No’.

Why? Because we say NO to socialism? NO to racism? NO to weak foreign policy footing, kowtowing to despotic world leaders? Because we say NO to socialized medicine? NO to fomenting class-warfare, NO to raising taxes on the affluent? NO to killing babies in the womb, NO to redefining traditional marriage? NO to calling returning veterans extremist nut-jobs to be placed on a watch-list? NO to thinking we can spend and tax our way back to prosperity by saddling our grandkids with a Mt. Everest sized debt?

Okay…maybe they’re right; maybe we are the party of NO. But I’d like to offer a slight amendment to that moniker (thanks, Dr. Kloor):

We are the Party of ‘Know‘.

We know the principles upon which this country was founded. The principles you Lefties are always dragging through the mud. Little things like individual liberty. And respecting the flag. And love of God and country. And respect for our fighting troops. And smaller, limited government. And a dedication to our international autonomy. And the belief in peace through strength. Trust, but verify. Rugged individualism and personal responsibility.

You see…I look upon these values in a very positive light. It’s only when I see them attacked on a daily basis from the likes of the New York Times, the ACLU, the Washington Post, CBS, NBC, CNN, NPR, The Huffington Post, the Daily KOS, the Daily Show, David Letterman, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Congress and RINO Republicans and every other arrogant, leftist collectivist punk who wants to completely redesign our Constitution and fashion instead a Eurotrash version of a socialist utopia….well…yeah, when I see these sacred principles attacked, I stand up and yell, NO!

NO, YOU CAN’T!!!

Ya see, Lefty… We know all about you. We know the truth. And we know you’re full of crap.

Hollywood is so packed with abject fools that it's nice to see an actor who has an IQ in the triple digits.

Note that Mr. Graham's best known roles are as Det. Sykes from Alien Nation and Ambassador Soval from Star Trek: Enterprise. I think there's a trend here. Charlton Heston (Planet of the Apes, The Omega Man), Adam Baldwin (Firefly, Serenity, Chuck), Ron Silver (Timecop), Gary Sinise (Mission To Mars, Apollo 13), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), Dean Cain (Superman), Tracy Scoggins, Bruce Boxleitner, Melissa Gilbert and Jerry Doyle (Babylon 5), Shannen Doherty (Charmed).

It seems that a lot of Hollywood's conservatives have worked in sci-fi/fantasy. It shouldn't come as any great surprise that people involved in the most intelligent entertainment genre would also have the most intelligent politics.

Flacking for evil

“I’d like to dedicate this to the man himself, Che Guevara!” announced Benicio del Toro this May, as he received a “best actor” award for his starring role in Che, a reverent new film about the communist revolutionary. As the crowd at the Cannes Film Festival erupted in thunderous ovation, the Puerto Rico-born actor gushed that “I wouldn't be here without Che Guevara, and through all the awards the movie gets you'll have to pay your respects to the man!"

But some stubbornly refuse to pay their respects. Thus, the actor received a much cooler reception when Che, directed by Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh, had a private screening in Miami Beach this past Thursday. Cuban-Americans, including the mayor of Miami Beach, protested the 4-and-a-half hour glorification of the man they consider a Stalinist mass-murderer.

Miami's media proved equally unwelcoming. At a press conference after the screening in Miami Beach's Byron Carlyle Theater, Marlene Gonzalez of the Spanish language America TeVe network asked del Toro about some glaring omissions in the movie. What of Che’s role in ordering the executions of ordinary Cubans? And why no mention of the forced-labor camps established on the guerilla fighter’s orders? A suddenly hurried Del Toro denied that Che bore any culpability for these horrors. He refused even to admit Che’s bitter falling out with Fidel Castro, claiming that, to the contrary, the two always got along splendidly and that Castro was genuinely heartbroken when Che was captured and killed after fighting to his last bullet.

The contrast made for a moving scene. As protestors outside the Carlyle Theater brandished pictures of relatives murdered by Che Guevara, del Toro paid tribute to their murderer. Questions about Che’s brutalities – meticulously recorded in books like Exposing the Real Che Guevara – he brushed aside as the embittered fabrications of Cuban exiles.

The following day, del Toro flew to Havana to present his film at the Havana Film Festival and hob-knob with Castro regime officials. Che was billed as the highlight of the festival and the Stalinist regime rolled out the carpet for their honored guest. “It's a privilege to be here!” effused del Toro. “I'm grateful that the Cuban people can see this movie!”

And why shouldn't Castro's subjects be allowed to view his movie? Weren't Stalin's subjects allowed to watch The Battleship Potemkin? Weren't Hitler's subjects allowed to watch Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of Will? Both were produced at the direction of the propaganda ministries of totalitarian regimes, to be sure, but then the same might well be said of Che. The screenplay was based on Che Guevara's diaries, which were published by Cuba's propaganda ministry; the diaries’ forward was written by Fidel Castro himself. The film includes several Communist Cuban actors, while other Latin American actors spent months in Cuba being prepped for their roles by members of Cuba's “Che Guevara Institute.”

The Cuban Film Institute is an arm of Stalinist Cuba's propaganda ministry. On December 7, Castro’s own press ministry announced that “Actor Benicio del Toro presented the film (at Havana’s Karl Marx Theater) as he thanked the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) for its assistance during the shooting of the film, which was the result of a seven-year research work in Cuba.”

That del Toro considers the Cuban regime a reliable source for the film is telling. Consider that the Castro government has jailed more political prisoners as a percentage of population than Stalin's and executed more people (out of a population of 6.4 million) in its first three years in power than Hitler's executed (out of a population of 70 million) in it's first six. These figures come from the human rights group Freedom House and from the Black Book of Communism, authored by French scholars and translated into English by Harvard University Press, not exactly headquarters for the vast-right wing conspiracy.

The irony is that del Toro himself is a noted advocate of artistic freedom and an outspoken opponent of the “armed struggle” that Che Guevara led, to such disastrous effect, in Cuba. But not only has he starred in a film glorifying the communist killer, but he has just deigned to be feted as guest of honor at Havana's Film Festival by a totalitarian regime that, for half a century, has jailed and tortured any Cuban movie director who strayed from Stalinist dictator's party line. Del Toro needn’t look to Cuban exiles to undermine his convictions. He has done well enough on his own.

Put simply most actors are idiots. It comes from being in a profession in which one must sublimate one's intellect to one's emotions. It is much easier to do if that is how you live your life when not working so the best actors tend to be people who are functionally mindless.

It really isn't necessary to do any more analysis than that. This little boy sees "cool" people walking around wearing those cool Che t-shirts and he heard all about how cool Che and Castro were in college and the political culture of Hollywood, where he lives and works, is extreme left-wing so of course he made this movie and is proud of it.

Like I said, an idiot.

Worshiping the little messiah

Howard Kurtz documents some of the mainstream media's Obama worship:

Perhaps it was the announcement that NBC News is coming out with a DVD titled "Yes We Can: The Barack Obama Story." Or that ABC and USA Today are rushing out a book on the election. Or that HBO has snapped up a documentary on Obama's campaign.

Perhaps it was the Newsweek commemorative issue -- "Obama's American Dream" -- filled with so many iconic images and such stirring prose that it could have been campaign literature. Or the Time cover depicting Obama as FDR, complete with jaunty cigarette holder.

Are the media capable of merchandizing the moment, packaging a president-elect for profit? Yes, they are.

What's troubling here goes beyond the clanging of cash registers. Media outlets have always tried to make a few bucks off the next big thing. The endless campaign is over, and there's nothing wrong with the country pulling together, however briefly, behind its new leader. But we seem to have crossed a cultural line into mythmaking.

"The Obamas' New Life!" blares People's cover, with a shot of the family. "New home, new friends, new puppy!" Us Weekly goes with a Barack quote: "I Think I'm a Pretty Cool Dad." The Chicago Tribune trumpets that Michelle "is poised to be the new Oprah and the next Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis -- combined!" for the fashion world.

Whew! Are journalists fostering the notion that Obama is invincible, the leader of what the New York Times dubbed "Generation O"?

Each writer, each publication, seems to reach for more eye-popping superlatives. "OBAMAISM -- It's a Kind of Religion," says New York magazine. "Those of us too young to have known JFK's Camelot are going to have our own giddy Camelot II to enrapture and entertain us," Kurt Andersen writes. The New York Post has already christened it "BAM-A-LOT."

"Here we are," writes Salon's Rebecca Traister, "oohing and aahing over what they'll be wearing, and what they'll be eating, what kind of dog they'll be getting, what bedrooms they'll be living in, and what schools they'll be attending. It feels better than good to sniff and snurfle through the Obamas' tastes and habits. . . . Who knew we had in us the capacity to fall for this kind of idealized Americana again?"

But aren't media people supposed to resist this kind of hyperventilating?

Well, news media people are supposed to stand aloof from this kind of thing but PR flacks, press spokesmen and advertising copywriters are supposed to encourage it. And it is obvious to anyone with even two or three working brain cells that the mainstream media has departed from journalism and become nothing more than volunteer spokesmen for Obama and his administration.

Then Kurtz gets to the heart of the matter:

"We're celebrating a moment as much as a man, I think," says Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham, whose new issue, out today, compares Obama to Lincoln. "Given our racial history, an hour or two of commemoration seems appropriate. But there is no doubt that the glow of the moment will fade, and I am sure the coverage will reflect that in due course."

I am not trying to diminish the sheer improbability of what this African American politician, a virtual unknown four years ago, has accomplished. Every one of us views his victory through a personal lens. I thought of growing up in a "Leave It to Beaver" era, when there were no blacks in leading television roles until Bill Cosby was tapped as the co-star of "I Spy" in 1965. When the Watts riots broke out that year, the Los Angeles Times sent an advertising salesman to cover it because the paper had no black reporters. The country has traveled light-years since then.

But have we really come so far? If a person had said before the election that they were not going to vote for Obama because he was black he would have been correctly identified as a racist. However what does that make people who voted for Obama because he is black?

Thanks to a cooperative media who aided in the coverup Barack Obama's past, other than the heavily edited version put out by his campaign, was a mystery to most Americans. Old, or mainstream media, showed absolutely no curiosity about the kind of people that Obama has consistently chosen to associate with or the kind of books he has read or what the specifics of his positions are on myriads of critically important matters of public policy.

Despite this lack of information a majority of the American public showed a similar lack of curiosity about the presidential candidate they voted for. While I don't believe that everyone who voted for Obama was casting what amounts to an affirmative action vote the majority of those who are clamoring for Obama election special edition newspapers and magazines and who are willing to pour into Washington DC and stand in what could be single digit temperatures for hours to be at Obama's inauguration, even though they won't be close enough to actually see Obama take the oath, certainly are idolizing him primarily because of his race.

So I ask again, have we really come so far? Given that it is just as racist to vote for someone because of the color of his skin as it is to vote against him for that reason are we really a "post-racial" society?

Who are you going to listen to?

Tina Fey on playing Sarah Palin:

"I want to be done playing this lady Nov. 5," she said. "So if anybody can help me be done playing this lady Nov. 5, that would be good for me."

You know I was really wondering who I was going to vote for and then as if it were a sign from above a brainless comic gives me the answer!

Of course there are others who disagree:

"Sa-Rah! Sa-Rah!" they chanted at every mention of her name, applauding loudly and waiving tiny American flags that were distributed -- along with free water bottles -- by local volunteers. The fire chief estimated the crowd at 60,000.

Admiring throngs mobbed the Palin family's arrival and departure, snapping souvenir pictures. Autograph seekers thrust campaign signs, caps with the McCain-Palin logo and copies of magazines with her face on their covers, and the Palins responded warmly.

Palin, her husband and three of their children arrived in Orlando but spent a family day at Disney World, she said as she introduced her entourage to the enthusiastic crowd. She joked about similarities and differences of the two states at opposite corners of America, but was all business when she focused on the need for a large voter turnout in a hotly contested state with 27 electoral votes.

For Obama to draw a crowd anywhere near that large at a campaign appearance he needs to have a popular rock band to open for him.

An evening at the theater

The Washington Post isn’t the only daily D.C. newspaper to rave about Sandra Bernhard’s anti-Palin ranting. Wednesday’s Washington Examiner joined in, with the headline "Comedienne delivers enraged optimism." Barbara Mackay claimed "in the end, oddly and subtly, Bernhard’s message is positive."

That’s not the impression you’d get from the blog of Theater J, where Bernhard is appearing. It has video of Bernhard calling Palin "Uncle Women," a "turncoat b—h" and a "whore." One complaint on the blog that Bernhard crosses a line of political incorrectness draws a defense from Ari Roth of Theater J that really drops the curtain on how coarse this show is:

In fact, the play wears its politically VERY correct heart on its sleeve with its indictment of America as "A Man’s World, It’s a White Man’s World, It’s a F–ked Up White Man’s Racist World" and can only be suggested to be racist in its content if one is hell-bent on protecting White Folk for Sandra’s blistering indictment.When Sandra warns Sarah Palin not to come into Manhattan lest she get gang-raped by some of Sandra’s big black brothers, she’s being provocative, combative, humorous, and yes, let’s allow, disgusting.

The fact that the show has a few riffs like this does not — to my mind — make it a "disgusting show." there’s too much beauty, variety, vitality, and intelligence to label the entire show as "disgusting." I’ll agree with you that we produced this show because we did find it to be edgy — because we wanted to give right wing conservative Jews a good run for their money by being on the receiving end of some blistering indictments from Sandra.Does it go over the edge sometimes? On the gang-rape joke, yes. Sure. Not much else. It goes over the edge and then comes right back to the cutting edge. [Profanity editing is mine.]

Forgive me if gang-rape jokes don't greet my ears as oddly and subtly positive, as the Examiner suggests, and forgive me if gang-rape jokes aren't "a rotating sprinkler that a spectator washes in most happily," like the Washington Post insists.

Two observations. One is that women who visit New York City would not have to fear being gang-raped by black (or any other) men if Rudolph Giuliani were still mayor.

Two, I tend to think that there is some projection going on here. I've seen Sandra Bernhard. In fact I've seen Sandra Bernhard naked so I can understand that she would persistently fantasise that that there might be some men somewhere who might want to have sex with her under some set of circumstances.

A five-star imbecil

One has to wonder if Woopie understands that slavery was abolished by constitutional amendment, not judicial activism. This is a serious question. The woman has proven herself to be an idiot time and time again so I honestly wonder if she is ignorant of the fact that there is an amendment process for the constitution.

I also wonder why McCain didn't point that out to her. I'm afraid that the sad fact is that John still hasn't gotten all of the sucking up to the left-wing media out of his system.

Of all the accolades. . .

FIRST Matt Damon, now Pamela Anderson has spoken out against Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin saying:"I can't stand her. She can suck it!"

Anderson, 41, was recently in Toronto speaking out against the abuse of animals in Hollywood.

When asked by E! News Weekend Canada about Palin, she has some choice words for the Republican hopeful.

The reporter asked Pam if she saw a recent Newsweek article, which showed a gigantic bear hide in the office of Palin’s house.

“I can’t stand her,” Pam blurted out. “She can suck it!”

Damon earlier lashed out at Palin - insisting her presidency would be like 'a really bad Disney movie'. The actor fears that Palin's running mate John MCCain won't survive a full four-year-term as president, and claims the Alaskan governor taking over would be 'a really scary thing.'

"I think there's a really good chance Sarah Palin could become president, and I think that's a really scary thing," Fox quoted Damon, as saying.

"It's like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mom, you know, ''Oh, I'm just a hockey mom''... and she's facing down (Russian) President Putin... It's totally absurd... It's a really terrifying possibility," he added.

Do these vapid celebutards honestly not realize that every time they open their flatulent gobs like this they are pushing McCain/Palin up a couple more points in the polls?

Or are they so narcissistic that they actually believe that ordinary Americans are just waiting to be told what to think by Hollywood trash.

Join Hussein for a night of BS, if you can afford the ticket

Uh-oh. Barbra Streisand—referred to among the elite Democratic core as the Black Buttah Widow for the way her endorsements mean the certain kiss of death—will perform at an Obama fundraiser at the ballroom of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on September 16. This is a room that holds only 700 people, so attendees will be expected to pony up for the privilege. From Variety.com:

Obama will start the evening with a 5 p.m. dinner event for about 250 people at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, the historic estate once owned by the legendary Doheny family. Tickets for the event are $28,500.

Later, he will attend a reception at the Beverly Wilshire, followed by Streisand's special performance. Tickets for the event are $2,500 per person.

Co-hosts for event include the DreamWorks team of Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, as well as political consultant Andy Spahn. It's also being organized with Obama's Southern California finance team.

Spielberg, Katzenberg and Geffen, too? Why don't they just wheel out a coffin that says "OBAMA 08" and drive a symbolic last nail into it with one of Sarah Palin's spare seal clubs? And speaking of the VP candidate, Streisand has weighed in on her website with an essay on the Brooke Hogan-radar-evader, entitled, "McCain Doesn't Get It: Women are not that stupid." It's a lot more enjoyable a read if you set it to the tune of "The Way We Were."

There are conservative celebrities. John Voight, Gary Sinise, Adam Baldwin (who writes as well as the best political bloggers) and number of others, including most country music performers. The primary difference between the celebrities on the right and those on the left is that those on the left seem to think that their talent as performers somehow invests them with some kind of special insight or ability which makes them more worthy to be listened to than the average person. Yet when they express those opinions in essays on their websites or as posts on friendly venues like the Huffington Post they almost always come off sounding like childish poorly informed mental lightweights.

And of all the left-wing celebrity air-heads only Sean Penn surpasses Barbara Streisand for a completely unearned sense of self importance when it comes to political advocacy.

The only thing that could make this noxious evening an even more perfect swan song for the Obama campaign would be Michael Moore as the master of ceremonies.

George Carlin dead

From The Washington Post:

George Carlin, 71, the much-honored American stand-up comedian whose long career was distinguished by pointed social commentary that placed him on the cultural cutting edge, died last night in Santa Monica, Calif.

His death was reported by the Reuters news agency and on the Los Angeles Times Web site. He had long struggled with health problems and a heart condition dating to the 1970s.

Carlin was selected last week by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to receive this year's Mark Twain Prize, a lifetime achievement award presented to an outstanding comedian.

Over a career of half a century, Carlin placed himself in the forefront of comic commentators on the American scene. He was particularly known for an album that referred to what he described as the seven words that could not be used on television.

The playing of the album on a radio station led to a case that went to the Supreme Court, and the material was judged indecent but not obscene. The legal controversy brought about the enunciation of a rule permitting a ban on certain material when children are most likely to be in the audience.

The case was one of the highlights of a career that included TV and radio performances, including HBO specials and many comic albums.

The New York-born performer, who also was an Air Force veteran, once summed up his approach:

"I think it is the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

Carlin's entertainment career began in 1956 at a radio station in Shreveport, La. while he was in the service.

In the early 1960s, he began his one-man act, and his live appearances and the albums he recorded proved highly popular.

His wife Brenda, predeceased him. They had a daughter, Kelly. A second wife survives him.

I remember listening to Carlin's routines back in the '70s and finding them hilarious but it seemed that as more years passed he became much less funny and a great deal more bitter. I suppose that his great flaw was that he did the one thing that you absolutely cannot do if you want to be a good comic, he took himself too seriously.

The causes of the Chinese earthquake

Sharon Stone, internationally respected philosopher and possessor of the world's second most viewed vagina (after Paris Hilton) has a theory about what caused the devastating earthquake in China:

Well you know it was very interesting because at first, you know, I am not happy about the ways the Chinese were treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And so I have been very concerned about how to think and what to do about that because I don’t like THAT.

And I had been this, you know, concerned about, oh how should we deal with the Olympics because they are not being nice to the Dalai Lama, who is a good friend of mine.

And all these earthquake and stuff happened and I thought: IS THAT KARMA... when you are not nice that bad things happen to you?

Remember when an Evangelical preacher suggested that hurricane Katrina might have struck New Orleans as divine punishment for the city's sinfulness? It was calving time on the left and in the mainstream media (sorry, redundant).

I wonder if there will be a similar pile on here.

The hypocrisy of the eco-left

The Daily Mail calls out some celebrity hypocrites on how their personal energy use fails to match their green activism:

Chris Martin

WHAT HE SAYS: The mild-mannered lead singer of Coldplay counteracts the environmental impacts of his band's tours and CD production by paying for mango trees to be planted in developing countries.

The theory is that the extra carbon emitted as a result of the band's activities will be soaked up by the extra tree growth.

WHAT HE DOES: According to singer Alison Goldfrapp, Martin flies home between gigs: "We supported Coldplay and Chris Martin used to fly home on his jet, go home, write songs then fly to the next gig. I thought: "What? Are you insane?"

Environmental campaigner George Monbiot says: "It's probably fair to assume he flies at least 100,000 miles (or ten return journeys averaging 10,000 miles each) in his private jet each year.
"If so - and even before taking the rest of his activities into account - he would be exceeding his fair share of carbon by 250 times."

Sadly, many of the 10,000 mango trees planted by carbon-offsetting firm Future Forests on Coldplay's orders to "offset" the carbon produced by the album A Rush Of Blood To The Head died.

Many experts now say carbon offsetting via tree planting is nothing more than a scam allowing rich polluters to feel better about themselves.


Leonardo DiCaprio

WHAT HE SAYS: Pumped millions of his own money into producing the environmental documentary, The 11th Hour, due to be released on DVD next month, and claims that if we do not radically change the way we live right away, the Earth will be destroyed.

Like many Hollywood stars keen to flash their eco- credentials, he drives a hybrid petrol/electric car which uses less energy than a regular vehicle in cities by switching to battery power in heavy traffic.

He says: "I've been driving a hybrid car for five, six years now. My house is built green, I have solar panels."

WHAT HE DOES: Although he flew his family from Paris to Rome on a private jet in October 2006, since 2007, DiCaprio has been trying to live down the tag of "Leonardo the Learjet liberal" and publicly eschewed the use of the fuel-glugging private aircraft.

"I try as often as possible to fly commercially," he declared at the Cannes Film Festival last year. By Hollywood standards, that makes him a hairshirted hero - but of course there are times when only a private jet will do.

During an interview with his co-producers, one TV interviewer challenged DiCaprio to "take a pledge and promise never to get into a private jet again" - something he has so far been unwilling to do.

Brangelina

WHAT THEY SAY: At first glance it seems that Pitt - who drives a hybrid Prius, has been a vocal and financial supporter of a drive to build eco-homes in flood-ravaged New Orleans and last year even guest-narrated a segment of green documentary called e2: The Economies Of Being Environmentally Conscious - is doing his bit to combat global warming.

"There's a lot of problems in the world right now because of our dependency on oil," Pitt gravely warned his fans in a recent interview.

WHAT THEY DO: In fact, Pitt and his partner Angelina Jolie are massive consumers of oil thanks to their addiction to private jet travel.

In 2007 they took literally dozens of such flights between them around the world. In August, Pitt flew from Chicago, where he was watching his partner work, to LA to perform jury duty and then flew back to Illinois the same day.

Recently, the couple touched down at Nice airport aboard their own "PJ" - burning an estimated 11,000 gallons of fuel on the trip from America.

Pitt would have to drive his Prius to the Moon to offset that. Oh - and did we mention that Jolie is pregnant again?

Soon it's going to require two people carriers just to get the multi-national Pitt- Jolie family as far as the airport.

Madonna

WHAT SHE SAYS: After she headlined the London segment of last year's Live Earth concert, memorably derided by Matt Bellamy of rock band Muse as "private jets for climate change", she was lambasted not just for her giant carbon footprint but also for owning a share portfolio with more than £1million invested in oil exploration, mining and other environmentally unfriendly projects.

In the wake of the furore, her spokesperson issued a statement saying: "Madonna's agreeing to sing at Live Earth is merely one of the first steps in her commitment toward being environmentally responsible.

"She is educating herself and her family and has begun to make changes around her that reflect her awareness and concern for the future of the planet."

WHAT SHE DOES: Madonna's carbon footprint for 2006 was estimated at 1,018 tons - more than 100 times that of the average Briton.

And it seems the "changes" she is prepared to make do not extend to using ordinary airlines. For New Year she jetted to India with husband Guy Ritchie, her son and five friends in her own jet.

John Travolta

WHAT HE SAYS: "Everyone can do their bit," Travolta said when he visited Britain last year to promote the launch of his little-seen movie Wild Hogs, and went on to declare that global warming is "a very valid issue - we have to think about alternative methods of fuel".

WHAT HE DOES: Travolta, a licensed pilot, owns five private planes - a customised £2million Boeing 707, three Gulfstreams and a Learjet - which he keeps in his garden next to a private runway.

When he was flying himself back to the U.S. the staggering scale of his environmental vandalism was revealed when he landed the 707 in Ireland to refuel and it was reported that he was the only person on board the flying stretch-limo. In a normal configuration, a 707 can carry 150 passengers.

Barbra Streisand

WHAT SHE SAYS: "Everyone has the power to make a difference by making simple, conscious decisions in their everyday lives," Streisand writes on her website and then posts a list of "Simple Things We Can All Do To Help Stop Global Warming".

These include switching to modern long-life lightbulbs, cleaning the condenser coil on your fridge and waiting until you have a full load before running your dishwasher.

WHAT SHE DOES: No sign of Streisand cutting down on laundry.

On tour in the UK and Ireland last year, Streisand's contract specified that she required the production office be supplied with "120 bath-sized towels immediately upon arrival".

It was also revealed that the vehicle list for her show comprised "13 53ft semi-tractor trailers, four rental vans, 14 crew and band buses and one limousine".

And, of course, she made the 'simple, conscious' decision to travel all the way from Manchester to London aboard a private jet. Why don't I feel quite so guilty about switching on my half-empty dishwasher now?

They mention a couple more, like Sting and his wife Trudie Styler and Prince Charles. And we could add arch-hypocrite Al Gore the self appointed potentate of all things green who nevertheless lives in a mansion whose energy usage exceeds some Third World countries and who flies on private jets whenever he finds it convenient.

What the Daily Main needs to understand is that these celebrity alpha-hotels don't feel like hypocrites because in their own minds they are special and entitled to things which should rightly be denied to lesser mortals.

Just like gun grabbing celebrity grotesquerie Rosie O'Donnell walks around with a small army of armed to the teeth bodyguards to protect her and her family. She simply believes that she and her partner and their children deserve to be protected by firearms while you and your spouse and children do not.

This sense of entitlement is so basic to the way that O'Donnell and the others view themselves and their place in the world that I seriously doubt that they have ever felt the slightest temptation to question it. When they are called on the hypocrisy which is transparently obvious to everyone besides them and their sycophantic hangers-on they feel unfairly attacked and singled out for persecution because of their activism.

Now I want everyone to understand something. Human-caused global warming is a myth. It is simply the best hobgoblin that the Left has come up with to frighten the mob into surrendering their wealth and their liberty. As far as I'm concerned Travolta can buy himself a 747 and have it modified for mid-air refueling and spend the next ten years flying around all by himself and never touch the ground.

If you have the money to live in a mansion the size of the Biltmore House and fly private jets and drive nothing but Hummers and Vipers then more power to you, as long as you come by it honestly. But do not step out of your Hummer on the tarmac of the private jetport and lecture the rest of us on how we ought to use leaves instead of toilet paper before boarding your Gulfstream to fly across town for a dinner date.

You do that and you will be mocked, laughed at, called a hypocrite and never again be taken seriously by anyone with an IQ higher than room temperature.

New Clinton campaign ad

This is a campaign commercial for Hillary Clinton featuring the actor Jack Nicholson in some clips from his movies. One of those movies is A Few Good Men in which Nicholson plays Col. Nate Jessup. Another movie I recognized was The Shining and the first clip was Nicholson as the Joker in Batman.

So does the USMC have anything to say about Jackie-Boy (he's "on the list") or any other civilian appearing in their uniform to promote Hillary Clinton's presidential bid? Yeah, I know the clips were taken from "A Few Good Men," but they were never intended for political endorsements.

Seems to me complaints could be filed with the Corps and the FEC. I wonder what the value of this would be, including labor and equipment to produce this bit, plus the use of corporate-owned film clips for which we can presume no royalties were paid, as an "in-kind contribution," and if any of this has been reported?

Independent inquiries and follow-up are encouraged.

Shooting the Messengers is also talking about this and Fits, a former active duty Marine, says:

It's fine to wear the uniform in a theatrical production. But NOT when pimping for a political candidate.

All of this is true, but what really struck me about the ad is that Nicholson is in character in all these clips and his comments are being used to support Mrs. Clinton. Lets look at these characters which Mr. Nicholson and Mrs. Clinton apparently feel are appropriate spokesman for Mrs. Clinton's campaign.

The Joker: A sociopathic mutant criminal and terrorist who murders hundreds of people in Gotham City by tampering with common household products like shampoo and mouthwash and at the end of the movie attempts to murder tens of thousands of innocent people by launching a WMD attack on a parade.

Col. Nathan Jessup: A psycho martinet who encourages the men under his command to torture and murder a young Marine who Jessup considers weak and incompetent.

Jack Torrance: An alcoholic failed author who sells his soul to the demonic entities inhabiting an isolated Colorado hotel and attempts to murder his wife and young son.

I can understand why Nicholson would think highly of these men in that they made him rich and famous. But you would think that Hillary Clinton would not wish to be recommended to the American people by such characters.

Heath Ledger dead

The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment in Manhattan, according to the New York City police. Signs pointed to a suicide or an accidental overdose, police sources said. Mr. Ledger was 28.

At 3:31 p.m., according to the police, a masseuse arrived the fourth-floor apartment of the building, at 421 Broome Street, between Crosby and Lafayette Streets in SoHo, for an appointment with Mr. Ledger. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of the bedroom Mr. Ledger was in. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger naked and unconscious on a bed, with sleeping pills — both prescription medication and nonprescription — on a night table. They moved his body to the floor and attempted to revive him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities.

The police said they did not suspect foul play. Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the office of the city’s chief medical examiner, Dr. Charles S. Hirsch, said that employees of the office were at the apartment and that an autopsy would be conducted on Wednesday.
Paul J. Browne, the Police Department’s deputy commissioner for public information, initially said that the apartment was owned by the actress Mary-Kate Olsen, but later reversed himself and said that was not the case.

A representative of Ms. Olsen said that the apartment did not belong to the actress. “It is not her apartment,” the representative, Annette Wolf, a publicist for Ms. Olsen, said in a phone interview. “She does not own the apartment. She has never owned the apartment. She and her sister have an apartment in New York City but they are not in this building.”

Heathcliff Andrew Ledger was born April 4, 1979 to Sally Ledger, a French teacher, and Kim Ledger, an engineer. Named after the main characters of Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights.” He and his older sister, Katherine, grew up in Perth, Australia; his parents were divorced when he was about 10. As a student, he joined a local theater company and appeared in a production of “Peter Pan,” which led to his being cast in children’s television programs.

Mr. Ledger’s first Hollywood film was the teenage romantic comedy “10 Things I Hate About You” (1999). He later appeared in romantic-hero roles in films like “A Knight’s Tale” (2001) and “Casanova” (2005).

But the role for which Mr. Ledger was probably best known by American audiences was in “Brokeback Mountain” (2005). The film, based on a short story by Annie Proulx about two cowboys who fall in love, won critical acclaim. Reviewing the film in The New York Times, the critic Stephen Holden wrote, “Mr. Ledger magically and mysteriously disappears beneath the skin of his lean, sinewy character. It is a great screen performance, as good as the best of Marlon Brando and Sean Penn.” Mr. Ledger was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor in January 2006.

Mr. Ledger met the actress Michelle Williams while filming ‘’Brokeback Mountain.” The two actors fell into a romance and moved to Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, where their comings and goings were widely noted by the celebrity press. They had a daughter, Matilda Rose, who was born on Oct. 28, 2005. The couple separated last year.

In an interview in London for an article published in November, Mr. Ledger told The New York Times, ‘’I feel like I’m wasting time if I repeat myself.” He said in the interview that he was not proud of his latest role, in Todd Haynes’s “I’m Not There,” in which Mr. Ledger was one of a half-dozen actors depicting the musician Bob Dylan. ‘’I feel the same way about everything I do. The day I say, ‘It’s good’ is the day I should start doing something else,” he said in the interview.
Mr. Ledger had been cast as The Joker in the latest Batman installment, “The Dark Knight,” set to be released this summer.

As news of Mr. Ledger’s death made its way across the Internet, the Police Department issued a fairly terse summary of the death: “ON TUESDAY, 01/22/08, AT APPROXIMATELY 1530 HOURS, IN THE CONFINES OF THE 5 PRECINCT, POLICE RESPONDED TO 421 BROOME STREET AND FOUND A M/W/28 UNCONSCIOUS. THE VICTIM WAS PRONOUNCED DOA AT THE SCENE. M.E.’S OFFICE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF DEATH. INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.”

Calls by The Times to Mara Buxbaum, a publicist for Mr. Ledger, and Steve Alexander, the actor’s agent, were not immediately returned this afternoon.

The building at 421 Broome Street was sold in 1999 to a company called Red Tulip, L.L.C. Calls to a phone number listed for Junia Hissa Neiva, an official at Red Tulip, went to an answering machine that was full and not receiving new messages.

The Times overlooks Mr. Ledgers role as Mel Gibson's son in The Patriot. I guess it was a bit too pro-American for anyone who works at the Times to have seen.

Since he was working and in good health I tend to doubt suicide.

Great men are often bad men

I found this over on Shooting the Messenger and decided to swipe it. Some of this I had heard about King before and some of it is new to me (like the bisexuality). And yet he achieved the things he achived.

"Martin Luther King’s statement that a person should be judged by his character not the color of his skin is a majestic thought. I will do that as I look at King, and I wonder if radical leftists, King worshipers, white liberals, black non-thinkers, media moguls and others will do the same?

Some “conservatives” need to do likewise!

Some will object to my research, questioning my motives but do my motives really matter? Isn’t it the truth that is important? Don’t people of character care about truth anymore?

Richard John Neuhaus said of King: “Dr. King was, for all that was great about him, an adulterer, sexual libertine, lecher, and wanton womanizer.” Neuhaus is a well-known liberal theologian and writer. My research also indicates that King was a drunk, plagiarist, bisexual, and Marxist. Try to remember that we are not concerned with his race or complexion, but his character.

If I were looking at David Duke and did not deal with his past involvement with the Nazi movement, I would be accused of bias or poor research. In the interest of truth am I not required to do the same with King? If not, then why is he exempt from a careful, honest look at his past to make a decision about him in the present? If I am wrong, please correct me.

No person deserves to be called a journalist if he refuses to look at both sides of an issue or if he/she refuses to give proper weight to all arguments because of prejudice. If a writer is fearful of where the truth will lead him, he should be selling insurance.

During the eight years I wrote columns for USA Today, I asked the editor if I could do a column on King’s plagiarism, however, I never got permission. I had read the story of King’s literary thievery in the London papers during a stopover from one of my trips from the Middle East. The editor of USA Today either did not believe me or more probably did not want to take the heat for breaking the story. The Wall Street Journal broke the story a couple of months later although they did so gingerly.

It is noteworthy that the American media was then forced to deal with King’s plagiarism, but even then they defended him! One main defense was that it was a “black thing,” which was an insult to honest, decent Blacks. When you quote King you don’t know whom you are quoting!

Why is there little debate in the King controversy? During the eight years I wrote columns for USA Today, the editor would not permit me to do a column on King although every year in early January, they always did a page dealing with him. I have one issue that has five columns dealing with King without one critical word on the whole page about him! That is a disgrace to all honest journalists everywhere.

Evidence proves that King had numerous affairs with various women plus numerous one night stands with prostitutes; two black columnists reveal that FBI tapes support the charge that King was bisexual having been heard during a sex orgy with his “best friend” Ralph Abernathy. King was also caught running naked after a woman down a Norway hotel hallway during his trip to accept the Nobel Peace Prize! The night before he was killed he spent the night with two women and fought with a third, according to his “best friend” Ralph Abernathy. If a man will not keep his marriage vows, he is not worthy to walk my dog.

According to the Bible, King was not even a believer in Christ! He rejected Christ’s deity, His virgin birth and his physical resurrection so according to II John he should not be honored; in fact, no one should “bid him God speed.” Furthermore, I challenge anyone to produce one example of King, a Baptist preacher, ever seeking to get lost men to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Never happened because he did not believe that was essential.

King, like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, Rudy Giuliani and assorted Republicans was a man without character, and informed, honest, decent Americans should not be honoring him with a special day each year.

While I was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives, a member introduced a bill to memorialize King before we had his national holiday forced upon us. The memorialization meant nothing since we did them almost every day as routine.

When the King vote came up (it was a voice vote since it was no big deal) mine was the only negative vote out of a hundred. No one in the senate voted no. I wondered where all the conservatives were. Soon they surrounded me saying that they should have voted with me but didn’t think it was worth the flack. I was told that had I demanded a recorded roll call vote and spoken against the memorialization, there would have been repercussions with my legislation!

The following year the same thing happened in exactly the same way! I started to speak to the issue and demand a recorded vote but did not do so. Why? I don’t know. Some might say it was peer pressure. My conservative friends told me, “Don, it won’t do any good and could hinder your chances of getting your bills even assigned to committee.” It was the only time I did not follow my principles while in office.

King does not deserve a national holiday but instead he should be exposed as a fraud, a fake, and a fool, and I would feel the same about a white conservative! As for celebrating January 15, I will do so since it is my birthday!

Sinking to his own level

January 18, 2008 -- DR. Phil, who is reportedly under investigation by the California Board of Psychology for practicing without a license in Britney Spears' lastest flipout, may be off the hook.

California authorities arecompelled to investigate any time a complaint is filed.

But McGraw's visit to Spears in the hospital earlier this month has turned into a huge embarassment for the TV shrink.

The complaint alleges McGraw, who does not hold a license to practice psychology in California, violated doctor-patient privilege by discussing the pop tard's case with the media.

Spears spent a night at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center against her will after a showdown with police and EMTs right after the New Year's holiday. Because of confidentiality regulations, Jeffery Thomas, the organization's assistant executive officer, said he could not confirm the existence of a complaint - nor whether a purported complaint form against Dr. Phil that has been making its way around the Internet yesterday is authentic.

Reps for "The Dr. Phil Show" also declined to comment.

But the reported investigation may not last long or go very far, officials say.

Dr. Phil would have violated state law only if he charged Spears or her family for his services, according to state regulations.

McGraw is also not licensed to practice psychology in Texas, his home state, because of disciplinary sanctions imposed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists in 1989. A former therapy client had filed a complaint against him, claiming their relationship was inappropriate. He later admitted giving her a job but denied touching her.

I dunno, sounds like the ideal therapist for someone like Britney Spears.

And if all that isn't enough just remember that it was Oprah that gave him his start.

Reluctantly posting about Jamie Spears

NEW YORK (AP) - Nickelodeon is considering a special for its young audience about sex and love following the news that 16-year-old "Zoey 101" star Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant.
The television network has made no announcement about the future of "Zoey 101," its popular program aimed primarily at youngsters aged 9- 14. Filming for the show's fourth and final season has finished, and episodes are scheduled to begin airing in February.

For the special, Nickelodeon said it's talking with Linda Ellerbee, the veteran newswoman who has stepped in frequently in the past with shows on talking to children about difficult issues in the news. She's done shows about same-sex parents, AIDS, the Columbine shooting and President Clinton's impeachment scandal.

"I think it's important that something be done," Ellerbee told The Associated Press on Thursday. "But I think it's important that it be done in a measured way, and not just to feed the beast of news stories.

A Nickelodeon spokesman, Dan Martinsen, confirmed the discussions but said no decision had been made.

Spears, the younger sister of pop star Britney Spears, told the OK! celebrity magazine this week that she was pregnant. The father is her 19-year-old boyfriend, Casey Aldridge. She said she plans to raise the baby in her home state of Louisiana.

Nickelodeon has made no comment beyond a supportive statement for its star: "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."

The company has received a mixed response so far from its viewers, and the news has launched a public discussion about how parents should deal with it.

"This is a great opportunity for parents at this moment to talk to their kids about this—more important, to listen to their kids about this," Ellerbee said.

The reason that I'm taking any note of this now is that I've been hearing commentators say stuff the past few days like "this was the only way Jamie Lynn could "out-slut" her older sister".

Now I don't know Jamie Lynn Spears, if fact I didn't even know she existed until this story broke, but the fact that we haven't heard a constant stream of stories about her antics would seem to be proof positive that she isn't cut from the same cloth as her older sister.

The fact is that the kid had sex without taking precautions and got knocked up. This is a good reason (along with the moral issues) why teenagers shouldn't be sexually active. They lack the maturity to take responsibility about things like pregnancy and STD prevention.

However we have all "sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" so I am not going to throw stones.

I am also going to offer a few words in Ms. Spears defense. Please take note of the fact that she did not just "pee on the stick" then head down to the abortion mill to have the child chopped into pieces and sucked into a jar. She could have done this and no one would have ever been the wiser. Instead she chose to take responsibility, let her child live and tell the truth about what had happened. She did this in spite of the fact that it could cause Nickelodeon to cancel the last season of her series. Something which would cause her considerable loss of income.

As Presbyterian theologian R.C. Sproul has observed being obedient to God is not about drinking, dancing or wearing makeup. It is, rather, about doing the right thing even when it costs you money. So far Jamie Lynn Spears has done the right thing. Until that changes I urge people to give her the benefit of the doubt.

What did they expect?

Shock rock singer Marilyn Manson has been accused of squandering his band's profit on a child's skeleton and masks made of human skin.
Keyboardist Stephen "Pogo" Bier filed a breach of contract lawsuit in August in which he accused Manson of taking cash belonging to the rest of the band to pay for the "sick and disturbing" purchases.

His lawyer Keith Fink has now filed additional papers adding to a list of artefacts bought by the goth singer- many of which are illegal in the US.

As well as the skeleton and masks, Manson is said to have bought a range of stuffed animals, including a grizzly bear and two baboons.

He is also accused of using band funds to pay for a collection of Nazi memorabilia.

Swastika wall tiles with matching custom rugs and Nazi government coat hangers owned by Adolf Hitler are allegedly on display in Manson's Californian mansion, according to legal papers.

When interviewed on MTV after Bier filed the original lawsuit, Manson said: "The fact that he's claiming that I've treated him unfairly, financially, is really ridiculous."

"And I would never spend my money on a Chinese girl skeleton. That would be crossing the line. It's a Chinese boy, for the record."

Bier is seeking damages and lawyers fees from millionaire Manson as well as his slice of the successful band's profit.

If there had only been some clue, some kind of hint that Manson was a wackjob maybe his bandmates would have known not to trust him. But as it is how could they have possibly have known?

I guess there is a lesson here for all of us. In deciding whom to associate with we need to be alert to the subtilist clues as to a person's character and state of mind.

O.J. rundown

LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas police said they've arrested O.J. Simpson on charges related to an armed robbery of sports memorabilia.

The arrest came after another man was taken into custody in the alleged incident.

Police said Walter Alexander was arrested on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon. Two firearms were seized, police said.

Simpson has said he was among several people who went to a casino hotel room this week. He said he'd hoped to retrieve some items that belonged to him. He told police no guns were involved.

Twelve years after being acquitted of murdering his ex-wife and her friend, O.J. Simpson again faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison after being arrested Sunday for allegedly robbing sports memorabilia collectors with the help of armed accomplices.

The Hall of Fame running back was arrested at his Las Vegas hotel room by plainclothes officers a day after the arrest of a golfing buddy who police say accompanied him with a gun in the Thursday night holdup.

Police said four more face arrest.

Simpson was to be booked Sunday afternoon on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit burglary and burglary with a firearm, police said.

Simpson, in handcuffs and wearing a golf shirt and blue jeans, was placed in an SUV in a convoy of police vehicles that headed to the Clark County detention center for booking.

The Clark County district attorney, meanwhile, said he expected Simpson to ultimately be charged with seven felonies and one gross misdemeanor based on police evidence.

Police did not allege that Simpson personally carried a weapon in the incident.

"We don't have any information to lead us to believe he was armed even based on those charges," said police Lt. Clint Nichols.

If convicted of the booking charges, Simpson, 60, would face up to 30 years in state prison on each robbery count alone.

Simpson's lawyer, Yale Galanter, did not immediately return calls for comment after the arrest.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - O.J. Simpson was arrested Sunday and faces multiple felony charges in an alleged armed robbery of collectors involving the former football great's sports memorabilia, authorities said.
Simpson was arrested shortly after 11 a.m., Capt. James Dillon said.

The charges against Simpson will include robbery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary with a firearm, all felonies, Dillon said. More charges could be brought against him, he said.

Simpson was being held at Las Vegas police offices pending the arrival of his lawyer, who was expected later Sunday, Dillon said.

"He was very cooperative, there were no issues," Dillon said.

At least one other person has been arrested and police said Sunday that as many as six people could be arrested in connection with the alleged armed robbery that occurred in a room inside the Palace Station casino-hotel on Thursday.

Simpson, 60, has said he and other people with him were retrieving items that belonged to him. Simpson has said there were no guns involved and that he went to the room at the casino only to get stolen mementos that included his Hall of Fame certificate and a picture of the running back with J. Edgar Hoover.

Simpson told The Associated Press on Saturday that he did not call the police to help reclaim the items because he has found the police unresponsive to him ever since his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, were killed in 1994.

"The police, since my trouble, have not worked out for me," he said, noting that whenever he has called the police "It just becomes a story about O.J."

The Heisman Trophy winner, ex-NFL star and actor lives near Miami and has been a tabloid staple since his ex-wife and Goldman were killed in Simpson was acquitted of murder charges, but a jury later held him liable for the killings in a wrongful death lawsuit.

Police said two firearms and other evidence were seized at a private residence early Sunday.

Walter Alexander, 46, of Arizona, was arrested Saturday night on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon.

Sometimes justice works out in ways we could not expect. O.J. has made a major error. He did this crime outside of Southern California where the people will not convict a celebrity no matter how heinous the crime or compelling the evidence.

O.J. will have to stand trial in Las Vegas this time.
