Turning over your health care to the same kind of people who staff the DMV

With the release of Fatboy Dim's new mockumentary SiCKO the left-wing political establishment and its propaganda organs (otherwise known as the mainstream media) are going to be beating the socialized health care drum as loudly as they can. For a good shot of truth check out the website Free Market Cure. Here is one of their videos analyzing the Canadian health care system.

Where is DCFS when you need them?

The People's Cube and The Nose on Your Face have been having a bit of fun with Rosie O'Donnell's decision to dress her daughter up in jihad chic.

British police seek Iraqi with ties to al Qaeda

From The Scotsman:

POLICE were last night hunting an Iraqi, suspected of plotting car-bomb attacks in Britain, who went on the run just days before two vehicles packed with petrol, gas and nails were found in central London.

[. . .]

Police say they are looking for an Iraqi who went on the run from a control order only 11 days before yesterday's failed bombing attempts. The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is part of a six-strong cell linked to al-Qaeda in Iraq.

He went missing on 18 June in north-west England, and his whereabouts are unknown.

I'm afraid that those wanting to blame this on the evil homophobic Joooos will be disappointed.

Thoughts on the London bomb plot

The New York Times is carrying a summary of what is known so far about the London bomb plot. Really no new information, but they are reporting the continued official speculation that the plot had an al Qaeda connection:

But the idea of a multiple attack using car bombs — a departure from the backpack suicide attacks of the London bombings of July 2005 — raised concerns among security experts that jihadist groups linked to Al Qaeda may have imported tactics more familiar in Iraq.

This does not necessarily mean that the people who constructed and planted the bombs were foreigners who entered the UK specifically to carry out these attacks, like the 9/11 hijackers in America.

The greatest danger today is that the work of terrorism will be carried out by native born Muslim citizens who have been radicalized. This pattern is seen all across Europe where third generation Muslims who have never been outside of Belgium or France or Britain are less assimilated than their grandparents who had spent most of their lives in Pakistan, Morocco or Egypt.

The driving force behind this is the government of Saudi Arabia's exportation of the extreme brand of Sunni Islam known as Whabbism. The Saudis have been diverting some of their billions of dollars in oil revenue to underwrite the cost of constructing mosques and Islamic religious schools throughout the world. The only condition attached to this largess is that the type of Islam being taught in these institutions be the radical Whabbism.

Adding to the trouble is the practice in many European nations of actively discouraging Muslim immigrants and their children from assimilating beyond a certain point. Bruce Bawer tells the story in his book While Europe Slept of:
". . . [A]n immigrant from a non-Western country who left Norway for eight years to attend medical school and complete his internship and residency. On his return, he went to the social services department to ask for help in finding a job (that's how things work in Norway.) He was told that they couldn't help him find a mecical position - but that if he wanted to be a trainee at a grocery store they'd be glad to be of service. And if he insisted on being a doctor? 'Go to your country and work as a doctor there, but not here!' he was told".

Throwing more fuel on the fire is the apparatus of the political left. The mainstream media in the US and Europe, the academic establishment and left-wing politicians are united in screeching as loudly as possible and to anyone who will listen that the United States and its Western allies who invaded Iraq and deposed Saddam Hussein were wrong and immoral to do so (apparently the only part of the West's Christian heritage the atheist left continues to cling to is the concept of the divine right of kings - Saddam had an absolute right to treat his subjects any way he pleased and no effort to change the situation was permitted).

The chorus of the left amplifies every setback for the West in Iraq and magnifies every success of the insurgency. The .0002% of soldiers who don't believe in the mission are held up as though they were the rightful spokesmen of the entire military and atrocity stories whispered to leftist "journalists" by "stringers" with connections to terrorist groups are believed over the sworn testimony of American officers and men.

The only narrative of the war which the left will tolerate is that the imperialist bungler George W Bush invaded the Middle East in order to steal its oil for Dick Cheney and his cronies and to force all the Muslims to become foot-washing Baptists like he is. Bushitler was aided in this by his lapdog European toadies like Tony "The Poodle" Blair. Due to the incompetence of its leadership and the unrighteousness of its cause the West had gotten itself into a quagmire from which it cannot extricate itself as the forces of an ascendant Islamic nationalism defeat its forces in detail.

This foundation myth of the modern left gives them everything they need for happiness. A just cause to support. Non-white indigenous people as allies to be patronized and a White male Christian enemy to be seen as the personification of all that is evil (George W Bush). Thus equipped the average leftist can go on his smug and sanctimonious way, filled up to the nose holes with esteem for himself and utterly oblivious to reality.

However as the song says, "You can twist perceptions but reality won't budge". Reality is two car bombs in the heart of London. Reality is that the left is serving the Islamofascists in the role of "useful idiots" as faithfully as they ever served the Soviet Union. Reality is the fact that militant jihadists hate liberal or "progressive" Westerners even more than they hate conservative Christians and Jews because their hatred of the left is mixed with the abject contempt which anyone willing to stand up and fight for what he believes in feels for the coward and the traitor.

John McCain's detestable little butt-boy reacts

Since the immigration reform legislation (amnesty bill) went down in flames I have been on the lookout for any reaction by Sen. Lindsay Graham, one of the bill's chief proponents. I finally found a statement in the Palmetto Shopper, a weekly distributed around the greater Pickens metropolitan area (sorry, no website to link to). Here are Mr. Graham's remarks:

You will all be sorry. At the end of days when the Lord John McCain sits upon his Great White Throne and judges the quick and the dead all those whose names are not written in the Book of Amnesty will be cast into the lake of fire which is the second death. Blessed are they who have no part in it.

You who have defied the Lord John McCain will be made to pay!

After this the Senator dissolved into uncontrollable sobs and had to be taken to Bethesda Naval Hospital for treatment in their psychiatric ward. Doctors there refused to comment on his condition citing doctor/patient confidentiality.

Tonight's Music

Tonight we return to the Celtic music format with a new video of Capercaillie performing The Tree from the Beautiful Wasteland CD. The gist of the song is that the singer's lover is at sea and will return by Halloween (samhain, pronounced saw'in) if he gets a fair wind.

Some more details on the London bomb plot

From The Evening Standard:

The Baghdad-style attack would have mirrored those carried out by Al Qaeda and immediate suspicion fell on Islamic extremists.

Two Al Qaeda-linked terror plots using car bombs to target nightclubs have been foiled by Scotland Yard and MI5 in the last two years but yesterday's attack was the closest the terrorists have been to success.

It emerged last night that hours before the first bomb was found, a message on a jihadist website proclaimed: "Today I say: Rejoice by Allah, London shall be bombed."

Posted in the "Al Hesbah" chatroom, the message suggested the attack was linked to the war in Iraq and to the controversial author Salman Rushdie, whose award of a knighthood earlier this month sparked outrage in the Islamic world.

At this stage it appears that the plot was connected to al Qaeda. The Evening Standard piece mentions a similar plot which was recently uncovered in France. Note also that a part of the motive to the attempted bombing was the Salman Rushdie knighthood. It is clear that the Islamofascists will not settle for mere disengagement from the Middle East. They demand the complete reconstruction of Western society as the price of peace.

This is a price which free people should be unwilling to pay. I believe that the anglophone world will be unwilling to pay it, however I cannot be sanguine about the choice that will be made about the Spanish and French and Dutch speaking world.

al Qaeda doesn't accept Britain's surrender

From Sky News:

Police have confirmed that not one, but two massive car bombs were set to explode in the heart of London's West End.

The first car, in Haymarket, was a metallic green Mercedes packed with petrol, gas cannisters and nails, and was defused after police were alerted by an ambulance crew called to an incident at a nearby nightclub.

The second was in a car that was illegally parked nearby and towed to the Park Lane car pound.
Staff there alerted police because "it smelled of gas."

That device has also been made safe and has been taken away for examination.

In a news conference Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clarke said the second car, a blue Mercedes, was parked a few hundred yards from the first in Cockspur Street which runs between Haymarket and Trafalgar Square.

It was issued with a parking ticket at around 2:30am before being towed to the Park Lane car pound where staff alerted police.

DAC Clarke said: "The vehicle was found to contain very similar materials to the first vehicle in Haymarket.

"There was a considerable amount of fuel and gas cannisters, as in the first vehicle. There was also a substantial quantity of nails.

"This device, like the first was potentially viable and was made safe by explosives officers. The vehicles are clearly linked."

"The discovery of a second bomb is obviously troubling and reinforces the need for the public to remain vigilant."

He also asked anyone who may have seen the blue Mercedes parked in Cockspur Street to come forward.

But how can this be? The British listened to the terrorists! Tony Blair, the man described by the terrorists' sympathisers as "George Bush's poodle" was driven from office and his replacement has already been sworn in and moved his kit into No. 10 Downing. The only thing left to decide from the British point of view is the exact order in which their forces will be withdrawn from the Middle East.

What gives? Ron Paul promised us that if we would just ask the terrorists for their terms of surrender, and presumably follow them, that we would be safe.

Maybe Ron needs to run down to Auburn and put his head together with Lew and the boys at the Ludwig von Mises Institute and come up with a Plan B.

National symbol no longer endangered

From The New York Times:

OCALA, Fla., June 28 — Bald eagles, whose numbers dwindled to historic lows in the early 1960s, are again flourishing and no longer need the protections of the Endangered Species Act, Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne announced Thursday.

Here in Florida, bald eagles have thrived for a decade, multiplying to a statewide population of 1,150 breeding pairs and giving this state, with Minnesota, bragging rights as the top eagle haven in the country.

Bald eagles, aloof centurions of the wild, seem to have discovered their inner Updike and moved to Florida’s ever-expanding suburbs. They can be found nesting in cellphone towers and raising chicks near landfills and airport runways, along highways and high up in the pine trees of the state’s upscale developments.

This is good news. Bald Eagles are beautiful birds and it will be good to have them continue to live among us.

I am not surprised that they are doing well. Birds of prey tend to thrive in suburbia. Remember the spotted owl, who was only supposed to live in old growth forest? They have been seen nesting in Wal Mart signs.

Rescuing the ungrateful

From The Washington Post:

A divided Supreme Court yesterday restricted the ability of public school districts to use race to determine which schools students can attend, a decision that could sharply limit integration programs across the nation.

The nine justices split decisively along ideological grounds, with a five-justice majority ruling that school admission programs in Seattle and Louisville violated the Constitution's guarantee of equal protection to individuals. Educators said the decision may lead many districts to drop efforts at racially balancing schools.

In a dramatic 45 minutes on the final day of the court's term, three justices took turns reading sometimes-biting opinions that portrayed the ruling as either the natural affirmation or a bitter betrayal of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education desegregation decision of 1954.

"Before Brown, schoolchildren were told where they could and could not go to school based on the color of their skin," Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. wrote for a plurality that included Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. "The school districts in these cases have not carried the heavy burden of demonstrating that we should allow this once again -- even for very different reasons."

He added: "The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race."

OK, keep this in your minds and then consider this, also from The Washington Post:

NEWPORT, R.I., June 28 -- He looked uncharacteristically dejected as he approached the lectern, fiddling with papers as he talked and avoiding the sort of winking eye contact he often makes with reporters. And then President Bush did something he almost never does: He admitted defeat.

"A lot of us worked hard to see if we couldn't find a common ground," he said an hour after his immigration plan died on Capitol Hill. "It didn't work."

[. . .]

"Sand is flowing out of the hourglass," said Fred I. Greenstein, a Princeton University scholar on the presidency, who was struck by the gloomy tone of Bush's televised statement. "He looked much less like the kid on the cover of Mad magazine without a care. . . . He looked very angry and almost having difficulty getting the sentences out. That seems to me to contrast with some of the early stages" of his presidency.

As I have said before President Bush is a man who when he gets an idea in his head believes it tenaciously, even when all logic and fact indicate that it is not true. And whatever else you can say about him he is a man of immense personal integrity in that when he believes himself to be in the right he will move ahead regardless of any cost. These facts have to be putting Mr. Bush in a very bad mood now, however I believe that we, the people of the United States have just given the president the greatest gift which he could have possibly received in these closing months of his presidency.

We have given him a legacy of which he can be proud and for which history will not curse him.

Had the amnesty bill passed the Senate and House and been delivered to him he would surely have signed it into law. Upon doing so he would have felt intensely proud of himself and believed that no matter how unpopular the measure was at the present that in time it would be seen as the greatest act of compassionate statesmanship since Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

What would have happened instead is that the already immense drain on the economy imposed by the anywhere from 12 to 30 million illegal aliens would have increased exponentially as the newly legalized residents began bringing in their families and all of them began signing up for social services. The downward pressure on US wages would have increased as even more low wage workers flooded into the labor market and as the aliens began to gain citizenship the nation's political culture would have rapidly began to change.

Gone would have been the fairly even left/right split which characterizes the electorate today. A split which prevents either party from fully enacting its agenda (bad, in that it prevents Social Security privatization, medical savings accounts and the Fair Tax - good, in that it prevents socialized health care, surrender in Iraq and the complete repeal of the First and Second Amendments). Newly minted Mexican-American citizens would have flocked to the party of the Left which would have offered both them and the nation of Mexico (to whom their true loyalty would have continued to belong) the most in domestic socialist giveaways and the most in foreign aid giveaways.

As the United States began its inevitable slide first into European-style socialism and then into Latin American-style chaos the blame would have fallen not on John McCain and The Killer of Mary Jo Kopechne and Harry Reid and Lindsay Graham it would have fallen squarely on George W Bush as the prime mover and chief instigator of America's downfall.

However as things stand now George W Bush's most lasting achievement in office will be the way in which he avoided the enormous errors of both his father and Ronald Reagan in appointing wretchedly bad justices to the Supreme Court and managed to change the culture of the Court in a way which is real, significant, lasting and highly positive.

Even the Harriet Meiers disaster was born out of a desire to avoid the mistakes of previous Republican presidents by appointing someone who was personally known to the President and in whom he felt he could place absolute trust to not "grow in office" (translation: turn sharply to the left).

If George W Bush had succeeded in his efforts to grant amnesty to the alien criminals among us and effectively erase the border between the US and Mexico he would have gone down in history as the man who destroyed the United States of America. Now he will be remembered as the man who restored constitutional sanity to an out-of-control Supreme Court whose judicial activism was threatening to undermine the nation's respect for the rule of law and strip the federal government of its legitimacy.

I know that Mr. Bush will not see things this way now. In fact he will probably never see things this way. In the world which he inhabits (major portions of which exist only in his own head) he will see this as a stinging defeat and as a severe blow to the nation and he will go on believing this long after logic and fact indicate that it is not true. But whatever George W Bush thinks of us, the American people, right now the fact remains that we just guaranteed that his name won't be remembered alongside Jack Murtha, Benedict Arnold and Judas Iscariot.

Not bad for a bunch of snaggletooth hillbilly retards drinking moonshine out of mason jars in our tarpaper shacks and singlewides out on the edge of the city dump.

Tonight's Music

As part of the ongoing efforts to promote the Biltmore Estate's Summer Evening Concerts here are three videos from the last of the acts who will be appearing there this year, The B-52's:

This is Dance This Mess Around from their self titled First album (I believe I had this on 8 track). You may be asking why three videos when I normally only post one. That is a good question you see I am posting extra B-52's videos because I can. When I am not listening to Celtic music I will probably be listening to early New Wave like The B-52's, The Replacements, Bolshoi, The Cure, Siouxsie And The Banshees and Elvis Costello.

This is Private Idaho from their second album Wild Planet, which I also think I had on 8 track. If you'll notice standing to the right of singer Fred Schneider the band's guitar player Ricky Wilson, brother of Cindy Wilson, the chick with black hair. Here is a snip from Ricky's wiki bio:

Among guitar aficionados, Wilson's most salient feature must surely be his highly original approach to playing the instrument. Because at first The B-52's did not have a bass, he invented his own tunings, grouping the strings into a bass course (usually tuned to 5ths for strumming) and a treble course (often tuned in unison), removing the middle two strings entirely, though sometimes he played with 5 strings as well. A blue Mosrite so modified is visible on the back cover of the B-52's self-titled first album.

Watching this is somewhat sad because Ricky died of AIDS in 1985. Based on the time that this video was shot and the time it takes HIV to begin showing symptoms he was already carrying a death sentence when this was done and did not know it yet. After his death drummer Keith Strickland learned to play the guitar in Ricky's style and took over for him. Rounding out the band (in a most pleasant way) is Kate Pierson.

This is Song for a Future Generation off the album Whammy! By the time this one came out I had a cassette deck in my car.

There is nothing new under the sun

From Front Page Magazine:

After their military defeat by regular forces, the occupied population produced terrorists who engaged in bombings, sniping, poisonings, and other attacks on occupation forces and on the civilian population. They operated as irregulars in small terror units, armed with automatic weapons and bazookas.

Women and minors as young as eight participated in the terror attacks. They attempted to build weapons of mass destruction, using chemical poisons. They assassinated officials of the occupation regime. They had a special obsession with torturing and murdering "collaborators." They murdered hundreds of civilians, while thousands of the terrorists themselves were killed by the occupation armed forces. The occupiers responded to terror with brutality and force, sometimes using collective punishment.

The above does not refer to or describe the anti-American and anti-British terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. Nor does it describe Palestinian terrorism against Israel launched from the West Bank and Gaza.

What it does refer to is the campaign of terrorism directed against Allied forces in Europe in the aftermath of the defeat of Nazi Germany. The terrorists were members of a number of underground "resistance" organizations attempting to punish the Allied "occupiers" and drive them out. The most important of the terror groups was known as Werwolf (German for werewolf).

[. . .]

For many years now the conventional wisdom has been that terrorism cannot be defeated militarily, that it can only be stopped when its underlying grievances are redressed and appeased. Moreover, the entire strategy of dealing with terrorism militarily has long been under assault by the Western chattering classes as ineffective and unjust.

Anti-terror tactics used by the contemporary Allies in Iraq and Afghanistan or by Israel against its enemies have been denounced by the media and by countless public figures, especially in Western Europe. But the claim that terrorism and guerilla warfare cannot be defeated militarily is false, as illustrated by the campaign against the Werwolf.

[. . .]

Nazi preparations for a campaign of terrorism against the invading Allies were underway by 1943. At first the intention was for irregular fighters to serve as a diversionary force operating behind enemy lines. The name "Werwolf" (also spelled "Wehrwolf") was chosen from a book by Hermann Lons (Der Wehrwolf) glamorizing a 17th century German guerilla fighter.

The Werwolf developed into a large full-fledged terrorist organization, operating under the command of the SS. It operated in "groups" consisting of 4 to 6 fighters, with 6 to 10 groups forming a "sector" and 6 to 8 sectors forming a "section." At its height, the Werwolf organization probably had about 6,000 fighters, though it could call on the support and cooperation of other units such as the Volksturm, a militia of the elderly and very young set up by Hitler near the end of the war. Himmler took personal control of operations starting in 1944.

The technology of those terrorists was of course far more primitive than that used by modern Middle East terrorists, but some of the similarities in technique are striking. Beheadings were a common Werwolf tactic. Decades before the pilfering of the museums of Baghdad, the Werwolf were under orders to sabotage and destroy art galleries, museums and other cultural institutions. While Germany never produced a campaign of suicide bombers, Werwolf terrorists were equipped with cyanide tablets and expected to commit suicide rather than be taken captive.

In the campaign against the Werwolf, an estimated 3,000-5,500 terrorists were killed. Werwolf terrorism continued well after formal hostilities ended and Germany had surrendered. In the German area of Italy, South Tyrol, where a German separatist movement was active, sabotage, bombings and Werwolf guerilla violence continued into the 1960’s.

As part of the campaign of terrorism, German Red Cross ambulances routinely carried arms and munitions, long before the Palestinians perfected that technique. Buildings thought to be designated for use as Allied barracks were mined, especially in Lorraine (where the attacks were directed against the U.S. Third Army). Werwolf terrorists collected caches of poison gases and chemical weapons, most of which were discovered by Allied forces before they could be used.

The Werwolf used death squads and assassination hit teams, often against German civilians whom the terrorists suspected of collaboration or defeatism. Civil authorities in German towns under Allied occupation were favorite targets. Priests, public officials, and even German villagers flying white surrender flags were attacked.

Werwolf terrorists were each typically equipped with 15-20 pounds of explosives and small arms, often including bazookas. Generally they operated stealthily without uniform, in civilian clothes. They set up caches of armaments in farms, caves, forests, and abandoned mines. Interestingly, there was a female contingent of terrorists, a unit of which, equipped with bazookas, played an important role in the last weeks of fighting around Berlin.

Children were also frequently used in terror attacks. The Hitlerjugend, or Hitler Youth, was one of the main sources of recruits for the Werwolf. Entire units of Werwolf consisted of minors. Teenage Werwolf terrorists were involved in bombing the Red Army barracks near Hindenberg. Child snipers shot and threw grenades at advancing American forces. Himmler himself invented an incentive system for Hitler Youth serving in the Werwolf: 100 cigarettes for ten sniper kills; 20 days’ leave for twenty kills; a watch and Iron Cross for fifty kills.

A unit of 14-year-olds attacked U.S. forces near Nuremberg. "Operation Nursery," a campaign against Werwolf terrorism by minors, was mounted by U.S. and British troops and continued well into 1946.

The terrorists used a variety of techniques. In addition to sniping and bombings, decapitation wires were popular – thin piano wire stretched across a road just at the height of the necks of drivers of Allied vehicles or motorcycles. Allied forces sometimes retaliated against such attacks by beheading captured terrorists. In Schleswig-Holstein, the British lopped off the heads of a dozen terrorists.

Mass poisoning was another favorite terrorist method. It was used with horrific success especially, but not exclusively, against Red Army troops. Between February and July 1945, 180 American troops were murdered with poisoned liquor. The Werwolf would spike liquor and food with odorless poison and wait for the troops to indulge. A special entity called the KTI, or Criminal Technical Institute, would prepare the poisons.

While the armed conflict raged, Werwolf terrorists were active in capturing, torturing and murdering enemy troops. But as the war drew to a close, the Werwolf began to specialize in terrorizing German civilians suspected of collaborating with or failing to resist the Allies’ advance.

[. . .]

How were those terrorists eventually defeated? With brutal military force and counter-terrorism combined with a long-term program of denazification of German civilians.

The Soviets were by far the least squeamish of the Allies when it came to suppressing Werwolf terrorism. According to a Vatican report, "Russian reprisals…were terrible. Using flame-throwers the Russians destroyed entire blocks of houses causing the deaths of hundreds of the inhabitants."

Soviet troops dealt with the threat through mass executions, mass arrests, marauding, and arson directed against German civilians. Hostages were grabbed from areas where any Werwolf sabotage took place and often were summarily executed. Any Germans – even hunters – possessing any weapons were shot on the spot as terrorists. Any German witnessing terror attacks who did not come forward to testify about them was shot. Those hiding terrorists or weapons were shot and their homes burned to the ground.

As of October 1946, the Soviets were holding 3,336 Werwolf terrorists in prison within the Soviet zone. The Soviets also crowded 240,000 suspected Werwolf sympathizers into a prison camp (where fully a third simply perished). In Jarmin in Pomerania, when German terrorists killed two Soviet troops, the entire town was demolished. In Schivelbein, after a Soviet general was killed by a sniper, the Soviets murdered every man in town.

Soviet looting and marauding in occupied German areas continued unrestrained into 1947. While such behavior may strike us as barbarous retaliation, Biddiscombe describes it thus: "None the less, given what the Werwolf was doing, or trying to do, the responses of the occupiers do not lay beyond the realm of comprehension." The Soviets were still concerned about threats of Werwolf sabotage and terror in Eastern Europe during the 1950’s.

The French were second to the Soviets in the viciousness and ferocity of their suppression of Werwolf terrorism. French soldiers pillaged German areas as they fell under their control. Random beatings of Germans by the French were common. The French forcibly expelled all German civilians from numerous towns and villages in their area of control. General Le Clerc issued an edict on November 25, 1944 to shoot five Germans for every act of sniping near Strasbourg.

Following some Werwolf activity around Constance, French forces grabbed 400 hostages and executed two. Any building in the French zone with Werwolf graffiti on it was immediately demolished. Owners had at most an hour to remove such graffiti once it appeared in order to avoid such a fate. Collective fines were imposed on German civilians for sabotage activities in their area. Wholesale travel and curfew restrictions were imposed on the entire German population.

While American troops generally avoided the excesses of the Soviets and French, they were sharply criticized by the British for using excessive brutality and force in suppressing the Werwolf. General Eisenhower ordered the execution of all Werwolf fighters captured in civilian garb.

It was understood among U.S. troops that they had a green light for applying frontier justice to terrorists, with no lawyers or trials. The counterinsurgency manual issued by the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expedition Force (SHAEF) recommended that troops simply ignore Geneva Convention rules when dealing with the Werwolf.

SHAEF instructions allowed using captive Germans in forced labor; seizure of German civilians as hostages; collective punishment; shooting of hostages; and massive bombings of civilian areas containing terrorists. Threats to shoot all curfew violators were commonly made. At Lutzkampen, Allied troops threatened to burn down the village if there were any violations of curfew.

When U.S. troops were attacked at Aschaffenburg in Lower Franconia, the entire town was annihilated by Seventh Army artillery. In the fall of 1945, well after the surrender, U.S. forces still regarded Werwolf bands as "one of the biggest potential threats to security in both the American and Allied Zones of Occupation."

Around Stuttgart, members of Werwolf bazooka teams were shot on sight by American troops. Massive artillery bombardment of civilian areas with snipers was used whenever it was thought such action could prevent Allied troop casualties. In Krefeld, one of the first towns taken by the Americans, 120,000 civilians were rounded up and held in detention camps.

Other Allied forces were vicious in suppressing the Werwolf. The Czechoslovaks routinely tortured and abused captured terrorists. The most dramatic Czechoslovak actions took place in the Sudetenland. After some Czechs were murdered by the Werwolf, local authorities threatened to shoot all German refugees there who had arrived from Silesia.

In July 1945 a large explosion took place in Aussig an der Elbe, killing 50 people. Blaming local ethnic Germans, the authorities killed German civilians in reprisal. The remaining German population was expelled from the town. Slovaks and Poles often treated Germans little better.

Canadian forces were also brutal in suppressing terrorism. Canadian General Chris Vokes carried out large-scale destruction of German property in retaliation for guerilla activities. Towns from which sniper fire was directed against Canadian troops were reduced to rubble. Orders were given to demolish buildings housing snipers rather than risk the lives of troops. German homes were bulldozed. No "solidarity" protesters picketed the corporate headquarters of the companies manufacturing the bulldozers.

As is the case with the terrorism directed against U.S. troops in Iraq and against Jews in Israel, Werwolf terror was never in and of itself an existential threat, nor did it represent a serious military strategy capable of defeating regular armies. Rather, it was designed to demoralize – to defeat the enemy by generating growing casualties over long periods and trigger defeatism among the enemy’s home population.

While no one in his or her right mind would advocate some of the more excessive means used to suppress the German terrorists of the late 1940’s, that era nevertheless teaches us that a determined no-nonsense campaign of wiping out terrorism with armed force is capable of succeeding, even against the most brutal of opponents. Determined denazification of fanatic violent populations was also shown to work.

As I have said before the only reason we are having trouble in Iraq is because we are holding ourselves back out of a misplaced sense of compassion.

I remember. . .

One of the nice things about getting older is that you can look back at stuff that you were there to get in on and was cool, but isn't around any more. Here is a clip from the movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show:

Not only am I old enough to have gone to the midnight shows with all the people dressed up in costume and shouted at the screen and sang along - I am old enough to have seen the movie when it was released on its first run. Back before it was discovered by late night movie goers. I remember telling everybody who would listen that I had seen this funny and very cool movie about transvestites from space and everybody looking at me like I had suddenly started speaking Chinese. I was even accused of making the whole thing up.

But I had my revenge when I saw some of those same scoffers prancing around dressed in sequened corsets, black lace panties and fishnet hose (I even saw some of them at one of the midnight showings of the movie).

Now be honest. How many of you saw the movie and liked it before it was cool? How many of you have never seen it at all?

PS, this movie made cinematic history in two ways. One, it was the first of the midnight cult movies and two, it was the only one of Susan Sarandon's pictures in which she kept her breasts covered for the entire movie.

THANK YOU LORD!!!!!

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush's immigration plan to legalize as many as 12 million unlawful immigrants while fortifying the border collapsed in the Senate on Thursday, crushing both parties' hopes of addressing the volatile issue before the 2008 elections.

The Senate vote that drove a stake through the delicate compromise was a stinging setback for Bush, who had made reshaping immigration laws a central element of his domestic agenda. It could carry heavy political consequences for Republicans and Democrats, many of whom were eager to show they could act on a complex issue of great interest to the public.

"Legal immigration is one of the top concerns of the American people and Congress' failure to act on it is a disappointment," a grim-faced president said after an appearance in Newport, R.I. "A lot of us worked hard to see if we couldn't find common ground. It didn't work."

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., his party's lead negotiator, called the defeat "enormously disappointing for Congress and for the country." But, he added: "We will be back. This issue is not going away."

Miss Ann is talking

That means that YOU are listening!

The Edwards campaign is apparently still running low on donations, so this week they went back to their top fundraiser: me.

I doubled the ratings of the lowest-rated cable news show on Tuesday by agreeing to go on for a full hour to promote my new paperback version of "Godless" — a mistake I won't make again. As I was walking to the set, minutes before airtime, it was casually mentioned to me that Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, might call in.

For the first time in recorded history, the show's host did not interrupt a guest, but let Elizabeth Edwards ramble on and on, allowing her to browbeat me for being mean to her husband. (This delicate flower is very sensitive to rough words, having hired the Edwards' campaign staffer who wrote this: "What if Mary had taken Plan B after the Lord filled her with his hot, white, sticky Holy Spirit"?)

Say, did any TV host ever surprise Al Franken, Bill Maher or Arianna Huffington with a call by the wife of someone they've made nasty remarks about? How about a call to John Edwards from the wife of a doctor he bankrupted with his junk-science lawsuits?

I think I may have tuned out at some point, so I can only speak to the first 45 minutes of Elizabeth Edwards' harangue, but it mostly consisted of utterly dishonest renditions of things I had said on my "Good Morning America" interview this week and a column I wrote four years ago. (You can't rush Edwards' "rapid response team"!) She claimed I had launched unprovoked attacks on the Edwards' dead son and called for a terrorist attack on her husband.

These are bald-faced lies, and the mainstream media knows they are lies. Yet they were repeated ad nauseam on Wednesday by The Associated Press, the AOL pop-up window, CNN, NBC and — stunningly — the host of the lowest-rated cable show himself, who personally told me he knew the truth.

So for those of you who haven't read any of my five best-selling books: Liberals are driven by Satan and lie constantly.

Here is my full sentence on "Good Morning America," which the media deceptively truncated, referring to a joke I told about Edwards six months ago that made liberals cry: "But about the same time, you know, Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack — so I've learned my lesson: If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot."

The usual nut Web sites posted a zillion denunciations of my appearance on "Good Morning America" immediately after I appeared Monday morning. But it didn't occur to any of them to simply lie about what I had said. No, it took them nearly 36 hours to concoct a version of that quote that included the Edwards part, but not the Maher part, or what English language speakers call: "the point."

By tomorrow it will be: "Ann Coulter tried to kill John Edwards on 'Good Morning America'!"

Judging by his fundraising efforts so far, I gather most of you don't know who John Edwards is — unless you're an overpriced hair dresser. He's the trial lawyer who pretended in court to channel the spirit of a handicapped fetus in front of illiterate jurors to scam tens of millions of dollars off of innocent doctors. According to The New York Times, Edwards told one jury: "She speaks to you through me ... And I have to tell you right now — I didn't plan to talk about this — right now I feel her. I feel her presence. She's inside me, and she's talking to you."

Let me also quote from campaign consultant Bob Shrum's book "No Excuses":

"(Kerry) was even queasier about Edwards after they met. Edwards had told Kerry he was going to share a story with him that he'd never told anyone else — that after his son Wade had been killed, he climbed onto the slab at the funeral home, laid there and hugged his body, and promised that he'd do all he could to make life better for people, to live up to Wade's ideals of service. Kerry was stunned, not moved, because, as he told me later, Edwards had recounted the same exact story to him, almost in the exact same words, a year or two before — and with the same preface, that he'd never shared the memory with anyone else. Kerry said he found it chilling, and he decided he couldn't pick Edwards unless he met with him again."

[Did you get that? Edwards managed to creep out Lurch! I can only stand in wonder - LC]

Apparently every time Edwards began a story about his dead son with "I've never told anyone this before," everyone on the campaign could lip-sync the story with him.

As a commentator, I bring facts like these to the attention of the American people in a lively way. Thus, for example, in a column about the Democratic candidates for president written in 2003, I pointed out that the Democrats refused to discuss the economy or the war, but had recently "discovered a surprise campaign issue: It turns out that several of them have had a death in the family."

(The full column is available at www.jewishworldreview.com/cols/coulter112003.asp, www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=2428&keywords=the+party+of+ideas and www.townhall.com/columnists/AnnCoulter/2003/11/20/the_party_of_ideas.)

Among several examples of Democrats talking about a death in the family on the campaign trail was this one:

John Edwards injects his son's fatal car accident into his campaign by demanding that everyone notice how he refuses to inject his son's fatal car accident into his campaign.

Edwards has talked about his son's death in a 1996 car accident on "Good Morning America," in dozens of profiles and in his new book. ("It was and is the most important fact of my life.") His 1998 Senate campaign ads featured film footage of Edwards at a learning lab he founded in honor of his son, titled "The Wade Edwards Learning Lab." He wears his son's Outward Bound pin on his suit lapel. He was going to wear it on his sleeve, until someone suggested that might be a little too "on the nose."

If you want points for not using your son's death politically, don't you have to take down all those "Ask me about my son's death in a horrific car accident" bumper stickers? Edwards is like a politician who keeps announcing that he will not use his opponent's criminal record for partisan political advantage.

Manifestly, I was not making fun of their son's death; I was making fun of John Edwards' incredibly creepy habit of invoking his son's tragic death to advance his political career — a practice so repellant, it even made John Kerry queasy.

I'm a little tired of losers trying to raise campaign cash or TV ratings off of my coattails, particularly when they use their afflictions or bereavement schedules to try to silence the opposition. From now on, I'm attacking only serious presidential candidates, like Dennis Kucinich.

What kind of man has his wife go out and fight his battles for him? Even Jimmy Carter didn't hide behind Rosalynn. Edwards has to be the biggest pussy to ever attempt to gain the White House.

No one to blame but himself

From The Politico:

The bitter fight over a comprehensive immigration overhaul has pushed President Bush and his fellow Republicans to the brink of divorce -- and, for the first time, the opportunities for reconciliation appear severely limited.

House leaders played down the friction Wednesday, but Republicans have predicted a showdown with the White House over immigration since Democrats took control of Congress last fall. And that longstanding tension spilled out Tuesday when GOP lawmakers voted overwhelmingly to reject the Senate -- and, by turns, the White House -- immigration overhaul.

The problem is that George W Bush is not a conservative and the Republican Party is the party of conservatism. This means that the fit has never been all that good between them and something like this was bound to happen.

George W Bush has done some good things while in office. He got taxes lowered and when we were attacked on 9/11 he responded forcefully and did the right thing by going to war with our Islamofascist enemies.

Mr. Bush has appointed excellent judges to the Supreme Court (we can forgive the Harriet Meiers debacle because she did not actually get confirmed).

We should always remember these positive accomplishments which the President has in his favor and not attempt to take away the credit he has earned with them.

However by not only supporting but working so hard to achieve an amnesty for illegal aliens and an open borders policy toward Mexico he has committed an error which outweighs the good he has done. If the amnesty bill before the Senate, the one which Bush is moving heaven and earth to get passed, becomes law it will mean the literal end of the United States.

I know that political commentators often engage in hyperbole but this is not hyperbole. If the US grants an amnesty which creates a path to citizenship to the 20 - 30 million illegal aliens in the US and opens our border to tens of millions more the resulting change in the electorate will destroy the United States of America.

Oh, there will still be a place on the map called the USA, but it will not be the nation created by Jefferson and Madison and Washington and Franklin. The US has already moved as near to socialism as it can and still remain a free, prosperous and strong nation. If George W Bush is successful in this work, which he considers the most important task of his presidency, all the good things he has done will be wiped out.

This is why I believe that the Bush presidency must be judged a failure.

Cupertino, CA (HLN) – Controversial documentary filmmaker Michael Moore is accusing Apple Inc. and AT&T of using the iPhone to distract attention from his new movie “Sicko”, which opens in US theaters on the same day the hyped phone goes on sale.

“This is an appalling display of greed and jealousy,” said Moore after a recent screening of his new movie. “Apple and AT&T obviously don’t care about fixing America’s healthcare system. They only care about how many iPhones they’re going to sell.”

Counting the days

Gates of Vienna does not hold back in evaluating the Bush presidency:

I am counting the days until this man goes back to Texas and morphs into just another ex-President shill for the same oily money bags that Jimmah and the Clintoons haul around.

He has become as smarmy as Hillary, as beholden as Barack, and every bit the turncoat that Kerry was. I would say it can’t get worse but Bush has another eighteen months to take us down.

Me? Bitter? Nah. Hell hath no fury like a voter scorned, Mr. Bush. Certainly you can feel the heat from millions of angry citizens by now. At least I hope you can. If you can’t it’s simply because you are so well-insulated by your sycophants that you can’t feel anything, can’t hear anything except your own echo chamber.

By the time Clinton left office I couldn’t bear to hear his voice. It had been the carrier of so many lies, so much faux-sympathy that I ran from the sound. Bush’s voice is worse, because I expected better from him. I expected better and I got worse, much worse.

I really wish that I could say that I thought that this went too far.

America is pushing back

June 27 (Bloomberg) -- The fate of U.S. immigration legislation was cast into doubt when at least six senators who helped revive the proposed overhaul said they either oppose or are leaning against a move to permit a vote on final passage.

The measure is in more jeopardy ``than I thought a few hours ago,'' said Senator Christopher Dodd, a Connecticut Democrat.

The supporters' strategy of disposing of amendments that threatened the legislation's bipartisan support hit a procedural snag late in the day, adding to the uncertainty. The Senate refused to set aside an amendment by Montana Democrats Max Baucus and Jon Tester that would dilute requirements employers verify the identity of new workers.

Under Senate rules, Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, now can't move to consider other provisions without getting the consent of all 100 senators.

``I think this hurts'' the measure, said Texas Republican John Cornyn, an opponent.

Earlier today, Senate sponsors had succeeded in killing a series of proposed changes that would undermine the measure's support. Nonetheless, senators who voted yesterday to resume consideration of the bill were withdrawing support.

Leaning Against

Republicans Richard Burr of North Carolina and Christopher Bond of Missouri and Democrat Ben Nelson of Nebraska said they oppose permitting a vote on final passage. Virginia Democrat Jim Webb and Republicans John Ensign of Nevada and Pete Domenici of New Mexico said they were leaning that way.

The only way the people of North Carolina could have been more forceful it telling Richard Burr that he erred in voting to allow the amnesty bill to reach the floor would have involved firearms and explosives. He may well have gotten the message.

I retain the hope that democracy still means something in America, but if this thing passes the Senate and the House and is signed by Bush that will have stripped the federal government of its last shred of legitimacy.

One of the contributors to the group blog Knowledge is Power put it like this:

Do they in Kongruss even realize how this is disintegrating the population’s respect for the Rule of Law and the idea of Every Man Equal Before The Law?

WWCAD (What Would Caesar Augustus Do)

A Billy Joe raised this point in the comments to this post and thought I would bring the discussion back to where everyone could see it:

"I'd simply like to comment that we already subjected Iraqis to Shock and Awe. Remember? Rumsfeld said that it would be unlike any war the world has ever seen. What's left? If we couldn't beat a bunch of marginal soldiers who can barely use an AK with Shock & Awe, what brilliant ideas do right wingers have left?"

Point one: The "shock and awe" part of the operation was intended to defeat Saddam Hussein's military and topple his government. It succeeded brilliantly. Saddam was nowhere to be found, his military no longer offering resistance and his former slaves dancing in the streets and tearing down his statues within days of the beginning of major ground operations.

It is the next war, the one not against Iraq, but against the foreign terrorists who have infiltrated the country and attempted to start a Sunni vs Shiite civil war that we have handled badly. The reason we have done a poor job, as I tried to explain in my post, is that we are restraining ourselves. If we were willing to go wherever was required and do whatever was required the whole affair would be over now.

What do I mean by "do whatever is required"? Well America keeps getting accused of being an empire so let's look at what a real empire actually did in the same situation. From the time the Roman Empire annexed Judea the Jews were restive and unwilling to submit to rule by pagans. They finally rebelled one too many times and in the first century the Romans decided to once and for all put an end to their "Jewish problem". They did this by killing hundreds of thousands of Jews in battle and by crucifying tens of thousands more. They destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem (the center of the Jewish religion) so totally that the only thing remaining of it was a retaining wall. They forbade Jews to live in the city of Jerusalem (considered sacred by Jews) and after burning the city rebuilt it as a Roman colony city and renamed it. They took most of those Jews who survived the final rebellion and transported them out of the region. When they got to the far flung corners of the Empire they were put up on the block and sold as slaves. So many Hebrews were sold into slavery that the price of slaves temporarily collapsed.

As a final insult, sort of grinding salt into the wound, the Romans renamed the nation. No longer would it be called Judea. From that point on it would be called Palestine, after the Philistine race which were the traditional enemies of the Jews in Old Testament times.

That is how a nation, or an empire, which is willing to use all of its available power ends resistance from a defeated opponent.

How would this apply to Iraq? Well, the first thing that we would do if we were a real empire is realize that the source of the problem in Iraq is outside of Iraq. The Sunni part of the insurgency is inspired by the Wahhabi sect of Islam and Wahhabism is a product of Saudi Arabia. Wahhabism is the official religion of Saudi Arabia by the decree of the Saudi royal family and the Saudi Royals use the immense wealth brought to them by their nation's oil reserves to export Wahhabism to every region of the globe. Add to this the direct financial support they provide to Wahhabi terrorist organization al Qaeda as a type of protection money to keep al Qaeda's terrorism outside of Saudi Arabia and it becomes apparent that the application of sufficient pressure to the Saudi government would cause a dramatic improvement no only in the US situation in Iraq, but in the entire world's Islamic terrorist problem.

The Shiite part of our "Iraq problem" is centered in Iran. The Iranians are supplying money, guns and IEDs to both Shiite and Sunni terrorists in the hopes of causing enough American casualties to cause an irresolute congress to withdraw our forces and to spark a Shiite vs Sunni civil war which the Shiites would win by virtue of their massively greater numbers. This would allow the merging of Iran and Iraq into the beginnings of a greater Shiite Caliphate ruled from Tehran. Syria and Lebanon would soon be brought in as well making the "Shiite Crescent" a single unified polity. This would make the next logical step in the United States' pacification of the region the removal of the Shiite regime in Tehran and the suppression of Shiite Islam.

While all this is going on an important side project would be to work with the Israelis to put an end to their Palestinian problem. A good beginning on this would be to move into Gaza and kill pretty much everything that moves. Then Israel should annex the area and let the Jews who owned property there move back in and give them financial help rebuilding. There would be no danger of Palestinians taking back over because they would all be dead and no more would be allowed in.

You can see how this would change the entire dynamic of relations between the Muslim world and the United States. Instead of being a "paper tiger" who would collapse with just a few hard pushes we would be seen as "They Who Must be Appeased If Islam is to Survive". The focus of the Islamic world would center around proving to America just how pro-Western they were and just how little danger they presented to us.

This has been how it has worked throughout history. When Islam is met with weakness it becomes militant and advances through conquest and bloodshed. When Islam is met with overwhelming force it retreats and becomes quiescent.

Tonight's Music

Season of the traitor

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate resurrected the immigration bill that could legalize millions of unlawful immigrants Tuesday, but the delicate compromise faces the same threats that derailed it earlier this month.

The White House and Republican and Democratic architects of the bill hailed the crucial test vote that revived the legislation, and they predicted approval of the measure by week's end.

Today the United States Senate flipped off the American people in what has to be the most brazen example of a democratically elected government* telling its citizens to go frak themselves that I have seen in my lifetime.

Our esteemed senators [sarcasm] told the people who put them in office to sit down and shut up that they knew better than we what was good for us. As far as they are concerned we should just pay our taxes and do what we're told.

The battle moves to the House of Representatives now and the forces of treason will have a more difficult time there. But do not let that encourage you to slack off. We must keep the pressure up on our House members from now until they vote to kill this abomination.

And when the senators are up for reelection we must mount primary challenges to take them out and if they win nomination we must be willing to vote for their opponents, even if that means putting someone in who will be worse in every other respect. We must do this because this kind of disregard for the will of the electorate must not go unpunished. If it does our democratic form of government will not survive.

(06-26) 16:33 PDT Raleigh, N.C. (AP) -- Elizabeth Edwards pleaded Tuesday with Ann Coulter to "stop the personal attacks," a day after the conservative commentator said she wished Edwards' husband, Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, had been killed by terrorists.

Ann said she wished the Breck Girl had been killed by terrorists? I had not heard about this. Well all I can say to Ms. Coulter is - You go girl!

But look, being killed by terrorists is so last year. How about this:

I wish John Edwards would be eaten by chimpanzees.

I wish John Edwards would use hair jell made in China and get ethylene glycol poisoning.

I wish John Edwards would get e coli infection from eating lettuce picked by an illegal alien whose last bath was when he swam the Rio Grande 5 years ago.

I wish John Edwards would go out on his porch on the coldest morning of the winter to get his newspaper wearing only his pajamas and see his reflection on an icicle and become so enraptured that he freezes solid while admiring himself.

Can any of you think of any better ones?

Ron Paul is an ass clown

I've noticed that anytime I post anything about Ron Paul's policy of preemptive surrender in the war on terror I get snippy comments from his brigades of pod people followers. Since I'm always on the lookout for any way to raise traffic I think I'll start a multi part series on Why Ron Paul is an ass clown.

In fact I think I'll open the floor to suggestions from the studio audience, so have at it in the comments.

The desire for peace is a fine thing, but when it drives you to ignore history in favor of an unrealistic fantasy it becomes nothing more than a precursor to more warfare. It was that impulse which drove Chamberlain to appease Hitler. It is that impulse which dives Ron Paul to urge us to "listen to al Qaeda" and it will be that impulse which will, absent divine intervention, destroy the Jewish state.

Need to vent for a minute

I don't know about the rest of you but if I hear Sean Hannity breathlessly say "I like all these guys!", about the pack of sorry-assed RINOs that make up the top tier of announced Republican primary candidates one more time I'm going to drive to New York and stick his head in a toilet.

Another win for the good guys

From The Washington Post:

The Supreme Court yesterday substantially weakened restrictions on the kinds of television ads that corporations and unions can finance in the days before an election, providing special interest groups with the opportunity for a far more expansive role in the 2008 elections.

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. wrote the 5 to 4 decision, saying the McCain-Feingold campaign finance act's prohibition against the use of a candidate's name in such ads in the days before an election was an unconstitutional infringement on the groups' rights to advocate on issues.

"Discussion of issues cannot be suppressed simply because the issues may also be pertinent in an election," Roberts wrote. "Where the First Amendment is implicated, the tie goes to the speaker, not the censor."

Unfortunately the Court did not simply rule all of McCain-Feingold unconstitutional, but this ruling effectively guts it and leaves the situation set up perfectly for follow up cases which will eradicate the last vestiges of evil lunatic John McCain's attempted repeal of the First Amendment.

Tonight's Music

Here is a video from Chicago, one of the groups appearing at the Biltmore Estate's Summer Evening Concerts. The song is 25 or 6 to 4. It is a song about writing a song. The title refers to the time. It is either 3:35 or 3:34 AM (25 or 26 minutes till 4:00).

This song was from the album Chicago II, released in 1970. It reaced number 4 on the US charts.

Sorry this show is completely sold out.

Let's set the stage for WW IV!

NRO covers one of the Breck Girl's speeches:

Did you know the solutions to the climate crisis and poverty in Africa are one and the same? Just one word. Are you listening? Biofuels.

“America gets off its addiction to oil,” he posits. “We move toward biofuels. The Europeans follow. The Japanese follow. The result is, all of a sudden, [oil-rich Middle Eastern] countries have no choice. They have to develop. They have to economically develop. They have to educate their kids. The price of oil goes down. They have to politically reform. All of a sudden, the world is a safer, more secure place.”

All of a sudden. “So what happens when America moves from oil to biofuels? Well, in the United States of America, we have the land mass, we have the farms [in places like, say, Iowa], to develop these biofuels. The Europeans do not. Neither do the Japanese. So all of a sudden, they need land. Where are they likely to go? Africa. And all of a sudden, millions of children in Africa, because of the move from oil to biofuels, are lifted out of poverty.”

This is just what the world needs. European Great Powers looking for lebensraum except that in this case it will be Africa rather than Central and Eastern Europe that sees the annexation. And all the while Japan is to be rebuilding the co-prosperity sphere, except also in Africa.

Does this empty-headed twit; this shining tower of ignorance; this glittering jewel of abject stupidity have any fraking clue whatsoever what he is trying to set up?

This moron is attempting to recreate the tensions which led to both World Wars!

If you're one of the moonbats who think that the carnage of Iraq is too horrible to contemplate try to wrap your mind around the bloodbath which will come about if Europeans and Japanese start fighting among themselves again? Especially if they manage to bring the United States into the conflict?

Let me clue you into some cold hard facts. The Arabs we are fighting now are incapable, due to their culture and religion, of truly participating in the modern world, including modern warfare. The average Arab soldier or terrorist can just about manage to master the basics of an AK-47 (a rifle designed by the Soviet military to be issued to peasant recruits whose previous experience of technology was the horse-drawn plow). They can also learn the workings of the RPG (designed by the same Soviet military for the same peasant recruits) and, with some training, learn to plant a landmine and throw a hand grenade. But this is about all.

When fighting opponents of this caliber the Western nations militaries limit, foolishly in my view, the shear amount of pure living hell that they rain down upon them. This is due to a misguided sense of fairness or compassion. But when Western nations like Germany, France, the USA or Westernized Asian nations like Japan fight each other the gloves come off.

Think about the Battle of Britain or Berlin bombed to rubble or the napalming and then atomic bombing of Japan's wood and paper cities by the US Army Air Force. Think about the Blitz overrunning Poland in a month. Think about the death toll at Normandy and Iwo Jima and Corregidor and Bastogne. That's what happens when modern technically advanced nations fight each other.

You may respond that democratic nations do not war with each other, and you would be mostly right. But look closely at what the European Union is becoming. It isn't democratic. Look at what Russia is becoming. That's not democratic. China? Never been democratic. Maybe the Japanese will stay good guys, but what will they do when the overseas possessions that their economy depends upon are threatened by European, Russian or Chinese bad guys?

I repeat. World Wars One and Two were started by nations looking for land and natural resources. Africa is even more primitive and dysfunctional than the Middle East. Turning it into the next Great Power battlefield is not the way to help the Africans or anyone else.

Fred the lobbyist

Now that Fred Thompson is becoming the leader in the Republican primary race the Democrat Party's propaganda organs (otherwise known as the mainstream media) is fishing for dirt on him. One of the early attempts to fling mud at him is going to consist of "exposing" the fact that he has worked as a lobbyist.

John Hinderaker at Powerline has taken this on and pretty well nuked it. Go over and have a look if you want the straight scoop on Thompson's lobbying activities.

For my money anyone who works to promote nuclear power is A-OK.

If this is the best they can do they might as well get used to saying "President Thompson".

Lighting up the pedophile "prophet"

Some people in Denmark burned an effigy of Mohammed (piss be upon him) at the traditional midsummer festival. Expect riots and screams of murderous rage as the religion of perpetual outrage and bottomless entitlement gets wind of this.

The charge is set only the fuse needs to be lit

From OpinionJournal:

Democracies, it is now well established, do not go to war with each other. But they often get into wars with non-democracies. Overwhelmingly the non-democracy starts the war; nonetheless, in the vast majority of cases, it is the democratic side that wins. In other words, dictators consistently underestimate the strength of democracies, and democracies provoke war through their love of peace, which the dictators mistake for weakness.

Today, this same dynamic is creating a moment of great danger. The radicals are becoming reckless, asserting themselves for little reason beyond the conviction that they can. They are very likely to overreach. It is not hard to imagine scenarios in which a single match--say a terrible terror attack from Gaza--could ignite a chain reaction. Israel could handle Hamas, Hezbollah and Syria, albeit with painful losses all around, but if Iran intervened rather than see its regional assets eliminated, could the U.S. stay out?

With the Bush administration's policies having failed to pacify Iraq, it is natural that the public has lost patience and that the opposition party is hurling brickbats. But the demands of congressional Democrats that we throw in the towel in Iraq, their attempts to constrain the president's freedom to destroy Iran's nuclear weapons program, the proposal of the Baker-Hamilton commission that we appeal to Iran to help extricate us from Iraq--all of these may be read by the radicals as signs of our imminent collapse. In the name of peace, they are hastening the advent of the next war.

We could add the illegal immigration issue to this mix. If the United States does not even have the will to defend its own borders against an invasion of largely unarmed Third World peasants who are doing undeniable harm to our nation then how can we expect strong-man dictators and religious fanatics to fear us?

Hey Mississippi, what were you thinking when you elected this clown?

From The Washington Times:

With his buffoonish complaints about talk radio and its role in educating the American public about the flaws in the Senate immigration bill, Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott (R-Mexico) has done much to energize the conservative Republican base and jeopardize the chances of its passage. Earlier this month, open-borders advocates came up 15 votes short when they attempted to shut off debate on the immigration bill, and nothing that has taken place since that time leads us to believe that the Bipartisan Alien Amnesty Caucus will fare much better on tomorrow's cloture vote — the most critical one on illegal immigration during the current Congress. If open-borders advocates fail again tomorrow, don't be surprised if President Bush and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, their poll ratings already abysmal, conclude that this isn't the way to build their respective political legacies.

Poll after poll shows the American people are, to put it charitably, very skeptical about the bill. In the past few days, we've seen Republican senators like John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas, who were thought to be in the undecided column, announce they would vote against cloture. Georgia Republican Sens. Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson, original supporters of the "compromise," are expected to oppose cloture tomorrow. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has made statements generally supportive of the bill and helped work out a "compromise" agreement with Mr. Reid to bring it back to the floor, now says he is not sure how he will vote. While many factors have helped drive down support, it's increasingly clear that Mr. Lott's over-the-top efforts to silence amnesty critics have backfired and become a rallying point for conservative critics of the legislation.

On June 7, Mr. Lott delivered a Senate floor speech in which he lavished praise on Sen. Edward Kennedy, the most fervent liberal advocate of the bill (and whose staff is most likely responsible for writing the parts of the bill that make it easier for illegal-alien gang members and alien absconders to remain in the United States). Mr. Lott attacked critics of the immigration bill as "mice" and accused them of trying to "slither away from this issue." The Massachusetts Democrat responded by giving Mr. Lott a verbal pat on the head, thanking him for his "constructive and positive attitude."

Unfortunately, Mr. Lott was just warming up. The following week, he spoke to the New York Times about the Senate's difficulty passing an immigration bill: "Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem." After talk-radio hosts from around the country reacted furiously (and properly so) to Mr. Lott's menacing tone, the Mississippi Republican complained to The Washington Post over the fact that angry callers protesting the amnesty bill had jammed his phone lines for three weeks. He appeared to suggest that the telephone calls were an effort by ignorant non-Mississippians to "intimidate" him.

It would be quite funny if the amnesty bill fails in part because of the incredibly stupid, ham-fisted, incompetent thug tactics of its RINO shills like Lott and Lindsay Graham (R-John McCain).

Of course I'll take defeat of this abortion on any grounds.

In honor of the iPhone launch

Either way the outcome won't be good

From The Brussels Journal:

Last week, a German court sentenced a 55-year old Lutheran pastor to one year in jail for “Volksverhetzung” (incitement of the people) because he compared the killing of the unborn in contemporary Germany to the holocaust. Next week, the Council of Europe is going to vote on a resolution imposing Darwinism as Europe’s official ideology. The European governments are asked to fight the expression of creationist opinions, such as young earth and intelligent design theories. According to the Council of Europe these theories are “undemocratic” and “a threat to human rights.”

[. . .]

Volksverhetzung is a crime which the Nazis often invoked against their enemies and which contemporary Germany also uses to intimidate homeschoolers. Soon, the German authorities will be able to use the same charge against people who question Darwin’s evolution theory.

It is a race to see which comes about first, The EUSSR or Eurabia.
